Leather tanning is the major industry in the city. It’s definitely worth a walk through this neighborhood.

Like many before us, we got hooked by this scam on our first day in Marrakech. What is it about arriving in a new city..... do we have a big sign on our forehead that says "I'm ripe for picking" :-) 1st morning, walked towards...More

Made the rookie mistake of using my credit card to buy one of their completely overpriced leather ottoman "poofs". Found TWO charges on my credit card both for 50 euro from one of the shops at the tannery I was dragged into. Don't make the...More

Please stay away from the Tanneries. It smells terrible, is not particularly interesting and the men who offer to show you around and sell you goods will intimidate you just to get your money. My Dad, my brothers and I got lost on our way...More

It´s a place that many people search for. We simply want to find out whether it´s true that the place smells awfully and people work in bad conditions. As soon as you reach this quarter, you´ll meet unwanted guides on every corner. I don´t know...More

Yes the Tanneries smell but what really stinks is the scammers that take you there. Even if you told them several times that you do not want their assistance they will persist and ask for money at the very end. Being hassled for money does...More

Knew this place from our riad owner, and he told us it's free to visit, if there is anyone show you around and ask for tip, Dh20-30 will very enough, so we went. It's not as famous as the one in Fes, so couldn't know...More

It was quite interesting seeing the Tanneries. But we quickly realized that the whole thing is set up very strategically by all the locals. We were told to just go take a look, just go around the corner, they only do this once a week...More

I agree with the above posts. The tanneries whilst interesting and rather smelly are not worth the hassle you will get in trying to find them and more importantly the sales tactics which are the most aggressive in Marrakech.
