Algiers' botanical garden was established in 1832 when the French administration decided to drain a swamp and cultivate plants and trees. Set on 140 acres along the Mediterranean, it enjoys a peaceful atmosphere. Le Jardin offers the visitor two distinct gardens: a French, and an English garden. The west wing, or French Garden, is located around the central monumental avenue... More

here you find a high variety of gardening styles, like French classical style with fountains, English style garden, exotic plants, Bamboo garden, wet land. Old very high trees from all over the world make for shady strolls, benches and the garden restaurant invite to hanging out just that little bit longer....

I was in Algiers as a stop on a Viking cruise and one of the tours took us to this spectacular site for about an hour and a half and it was the highlight of the cruise. It was a Friday (the non-workday of the week in the Muslim world) so this beautiful park built by the French with its... More

A nice walk - good parking next to the Jardin. Could be tidier. It was good to see the Tarzan tree from the 1950's movie

This is an extensive botanic garden with an interesting assortment of plants and arrangements as well as water features including fountains. Although my visit was in winter there would be plenty of shade available for a visit in high summer. There are several very pleasing vistas including a view of the sea.
