I have taken so many of my friends to this trail to see the bridge. It's walking distance from the parking are, and it's also a great trail to go biking on. Just bring your bug spray in the summer, as it's a forested area. Definitely worth the trip to see the bridge light up at night though!

Many starting points depending on how long you would like to ride. Do not go on the full moon ride. It is too busy and dangerous

I have walked across the bridge several times and I have ridden my bike across the bridge several times. Each times was fantastic. I always stop for a cold drink at Whispering Donkey Bar or Flat Tire Lounge or some other local dive bar in a nearby small town. The bridge gets busy with bicycles in the summer. It is... More

The Hight Trestle Trail (HTT) is a great addition to the central Iowa trail network. The trail head is in Ankeny, Iowa, a town of about 60,000 with plenty of restaurants and hotels. The trail head doubles as a farmers market on Saturday mornings in the summer. The trail heads northwest out of Ankeny. The stretch between Ankeny is straight... More

My family has visited the High Trestle Trail Bridge over the Des Moines River twice. The highlight of the 25-mile trail is the former railroad bridge built in 1913 was converted to a bicycle bridge in 2011. According to wikipedia.com "The 13-story (40-meter) high and nearly half-mile (770-meter) long trestle bridge provides scenic views of the Des Moines River Valley".

The High Trestle Trail is a paved, multi use trail in central Iowa that runs through multiple counties and towns, it is not exclusive to Ankeny and shouldn;t be listed as such. For that matter, the highlight of the trail, and truly an internationally known landmark isa the High Trestle Bridge, which is on the Boone County portion of trail,... More

Directions were a little confusing so hope this helps. Drive to Madrid, a small town a short distance from Ankeny. Follow HWY 210, follow signs to parking, walk to bridge. It's about a one mile hike if you just want to see the bridge and not bike or hike the total length of the trail. This is an artsy type... More

My wife & I rode from the trailhead in Woodard to Ankeny & back. Great facility at the trailhead to both change at & clean up. There was were also tools & an air pump there. What a wonderful surface to ride on. Both the concrete & the asphalt was smooth. We did encounter wind during the first leg of... More
