Overview
More
Mounds State Park, located off I-69 east of Anderson, features 10 unique earthworks built by prehistoric Indians known as the Adena-Hopewell people. The largest earthwork, the Great Mound, is believed to have been constructed around 160 B.C. Archaeological surveys indicate the mounds were used as gathering places for religious ceremonies, from where astronomical alignments could be viewed. Be sure to visit our Nature Center, which includes a wildlife viewing room, animal displays, interactive games and more. Hours are 9 am to 4 pm daily. Naturalist-led hikes and interpretive programs are offered every weekend throughout the year.

We go to mounds park frequently. Beautiful and peaceful. We have a family reunion and Christmas at the cabin every year. Love that the cabin has plenty of room and a full kitchen. Recently they have put up signs around the park about the amusement...More

This is a small state park located by an airport. The park was well maintained and the sites are typical of most parks. Some are close and in the open but they do offer sites that are farther apart and back up to the trees...More

This park has huge trees, well planned trails. A quiet well maintained park. The signage was well written and well maintained too. We're glad that the Native American mounds are preserved and protected.

I visited on a hot Saturday in August. My purpose for going was hiking. I did the park loop and a couple of the interior trails that included stairs and "boardwalks". It was a very pretty walk and the trails are very well maintained. The...More

Stayed at the campground 7/18 - 7/19. Originally reserved a handicap accessible site. It was in the middle of the field, no shade or trees whatsoever. Full hot sun in the afternoon and evening. Fortunately, they let us move. Guess they don’t like the handicapped....More

I was very disappointed. I am from Kentucky and the state park system is free. It is part of the pleasures of the state. I can't believe Indiana (and other states) make you pay for something that taxes support anyway!

We went here with our daughter and 3 grandchildren to go for a hike. We had a great time. I would recommend this to anyone looking for something inexpensive to do that requires some moderate physical activity.

It’s a beautiful place, however, we camped near the store and the place was crawling with raccoons. We were trying to do s’mores with the kids and we kept getting surrounded. I’ve never seen raccoons that bold nor have I seen one that close up....More

This is a great park with nice trails. My only complaint is there are so many offshoots from the trails, it's difficult to stay on 1 particular trail at times. But you can't really keep people from going off trail.

I used an annual pass, but if you don't have that it's $7 per vehicle for in-state and $9 for out of state. That's a one time fee if you are camping....example, if you're camping three nights, you just pay the gate fee once... More

Yes you pay admission and it is marked to expire. And the park closes overnight so probably won't be able to leave your car.
