Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Even though we go to Oahu often, we haven't stayed in Manoa Valley since 2000. After all, it's not near the beach. It's sort of a suburban area, not far from University of Hawaii at Manoa, and therefore a good central location to the east or the west on the Honolulu side. But we visited it recently and remembered why we loved it when we did stay there.
You drive up Manoa Road, and the temperature drops about 5 to 7 degrees; the vegetation gets richer and greener; the houses are majestic, the trees hang over the road; the mountains are all around. It's beautiful.
We went to Manoa Market Place and it has everything you need and some very special places like Fendu Manapua and Bakery.
Then we went to the newly renovated Manoa Valley Public Library. What a great place! Next time I'm planning a stay on Oahu I think I'll look for a rental in Manoa Valley.

Manoa Valley Chinese Cemetery: By sheer luck, I tumbled into this area just exploring the island. What a secluded treat this cemetery was. It is majestic, sacred and serene. The meticulous memorials for people are humbling. You can sense the very strong family spirit that permeates these grounds. Many beautiful tributes to lost loved ones. This is a hidden gem that gives you a look into a different culture, and the most beautiful view of Honolulu from afar. Respect this peaceful spot if you decide to visit. It was, for me, the best thing that I saw in Oahu.

Take the The Bus #5 to Manoa Valley in Oahu. Total time round time about 3 hours. Great way to spend a morning. Stop at the Rainbow's End Cafe at the start for the washrooms and an Ice.

Manao valley is located about 20 minutes from Waikiki, drive towards paradise park and you will see the real rain forest here. If you choose to take a tour book with Karma Tour of Hawaii and they will guide you to amazing places on this valley with Aloha spirit.

BEAUTIFUL hike. We did this the last day of our stay. It was a decent hike to the falls, but it wasn't terribly hard. There had not been much rain, so the fall was pretty much a trickle. The scenery there was much prettier than the actual falls. I would do it again though.

did this tour of the rain forest and bamboo forest thru Adventures by Disney It was well organized and they pay attention to all details. They had water, snacks, boots, rain ponchos, and great guides. this is not an easy hike for the non conditioned. It is muddy and slippery. It is worth the effort. The bamboo Forrest was very cool. I would highly recommend.

Tonight I went to Medici's in Manoa for the first time. Upstairs in a strip mall is almost never a location I would be drawn to but this was eclectic, different and really enjoyable. We went to dinner at a great little Vietnamese restaurant downstairs and didn't partake of the interesting looking, fresh and colorful buffet at Medici's. We went there for the jazz. We took our own wine which we bought at Safeway just around the corner (a good selection of wines), paid the $20 entrance fee and $5 corkage at Medici's and were shown to our table by a really charming young musician. We settled in, and so eventually did the performing musicians, because after a set and a half they got their sound levels sorted so that we could hear the sassy vocals of the very talented jazz 'diva'. She however was not the star of the show (sorry) in my opinion. It was without a doubt the huge talent of the man who brought to life his saxophone, clarinet and flute. This guy is world class and had me almost moved to tears with the power and beauty of his music. His wife and three vibrant sons were in the audience and I was grateful for the opportunity to tell them how much we appreciated their Dad's talent as we left the venue after a truly fabulous evening of great music.
I highly recommend Medici's. The staff a friendly and professional, the owners gracious and unpretentious, the venue eclectic and verging on fun kitsch and tonight, the music was awesome! Bravo the saxophonist, you were without doubt the star!! A gem of a talent in Honolulu.

Can you hike to Manoa Valley without a tour guide or do you need one and if so how much do they cost?
