We did a sunrise tour along this road, so going to Haleakala we didn't see much as it was dark. But on the way back it was a great drive. We stopped at a restaurant for breakfast & enjoyed the beautiful scenery. An extremely busy...More

Be sure to purchase your ticket to the summit early so that you are able to get in before the sun rises if those are your plans. Very inexpensive. Double check travel time as it may take longer than Google indicates. If you arrive early,...More

The drive up is twisted, curvy, don’t rush. We bought the Gypsy self car guided tour which was fantastic, it explained everything on the way which made this drive more memorable.Lots of stopping points to take pictures or just enjoy this beauty, breathtaking scenery. You...More

Wake up as early as possible and hit the road to the Haleakala. From the bottom and all the way to the top you will see gorgeous views, rainbows and at one point you will be above the clouds. Drive carefully, that’s the first thing...More

Hey, you are in Maui . . . you got to do it! If I had to do it over again . . . I would ride a bike down from the top.

The views along the way and on top are spectacular. I’m glad I did this once, it really is not to be missed. However, the drive was terrifying. Once inside the park, there are no guard rails. The safety of everyone seems to be based...More

This is a beautiful drive regardless of when you take the trip. Be wary of the cyclists, though, because you will be sharing the road with plenty of them. The view to the top is pretty and there are some places here and there along...More

This twisting road will lead you to the crater where you will believe you are not on earth anymore! There are some very talented cyclists that are climbing the road, and some more that are descending it. You will get some rain, some sunshine, and...More

Heard the visit to make was for sunrise- I understand but there are many things to consider. To visit at sunrise need to make special reservation at a small cost, get up at 1am or so to make drive (in the dark) around hairpin curves...More

There are some areas that it would be easier to turn around at than others. There is quite a bit of winding road within trees and houses getting up to the park gates, then there is more winding road on the exposed side of... More

Yes, the road is paved all the way to the top. A Harley will probably do fine. You still need to make a reservation if you are trying to see sunrise.

Probably takes 15-20 minutes to get to road that leads up country depending on traffic; there are no short cuts
