This is a great isolated beach area close to the Poipu area. The sand is soft and clear water, and you want to hike there are some great cliff areas with beautiful vistas. The road in however is quite rough and filled with deep potholes...More

Can be accessed via road or via the trail from Poipu. The road gates are locked around 1800 by Grove Farms, so be out by then or you will stay the night. The road is very unkempt, there are potholes that could hide a small...More

This is a beautiful area not just the beaches but the cliffs. It is a great place to hike and explore the coast. We saw spinner dolphins and whales. Read all the reviews regarding the warnings of the potholed road (we did it in a...More

After being at Poipu Beach we decided to check out Maha'ulepu and were very glad we did! Luckily we had rented a Wrangler, otherwise I think the road might have dissuaded us from driving down there in a regular car. Very bumpy/potholed/puddly road which is...More

I think this beach has several parts - we were at Kawailoa Bay. If you're willing to drive two miles each way down a DEEPLY potholed road, this is a ruggedly scenic beach. Not like a gentle tropical paradise, but more wild, with crashing waves,...More

This is one of the hardest beaches to get to on Kauai. Found it much more difficult than Polihale. We had a jeep and glad we did as the potholes could easily damage a car. But, if you take your time you are in for...More

Our experience here ruined our honeymoon. We spent the afternoon on the beach and hiked around with good faith intention of being out by 6pm when the gates close. Our phone battery died so we did not have the EXACT time. They lock the gate...More

You should know that access to this beach by road is via private property - which is only open during the day. We got there around 5:45, not even realizing we might be locked in. (We learned later from one of our guide books that...More

This is the first time we've been to this beach, even though we've been to Poipu several times. The multiple beaches are outstanding. There were quite a few people there, but it is so large, there was still plenty of beach for everyone :)
