As a photographer this was high on my list of sights to see and photograph. First, the parking is very limited, so be prepared to wait for someone to leave or you may be forced to try another time. The hike down to the beach...More

The drive to this point is only worth it if you are going to hike down to the beach. Parking is limited. The views are nice, but if you can’t hike down it is a waste of time.

The view from the parking area is nice but to truly enjoy the place, you need to walk down the hill to the beach and if you are up for it, go on to the "Bench" on the top of the next ridge.

Beautiful view even in a tropical storm! There appears to be a path down to the beach but it's steep and slippery and most people we saw coming back had taken a tumble and were covered in mud.... we opted to enjoy the view from...More

Take Hwy 270 to its north east end past Hawi and Kapa'au and you'll discover an incredible view looking down Pololu Valley and the deserted black sand beach several hundred feet below. Due to the recent heavy rains on the Big Island, the trail was...More

Definitely not on crutches or even someone with bad knees or ankles. It is a very challenging hike due to the steep grade and the terrain.

It would depend on your stamina and strength. It is a fairly steep climb back up. You are not ever climbing as with your hands and knees, but there are three switchbacks and almost constantly climbing as if on stairs.
