We stumbled upon this great spot as part of a guided tour along the scenic byway from Hilo. We glimpsed the bay from above and asked to stop. After a short 300 meter walk to the black lava stone cove, we enjoyed the surging surf...More

4 miles of gorgeous bliss off the beaten path of Highway 19 outside of Hilo. Well worth a slow drive or even an afternoon, if you're a sun worshiper.

Onomea Bay is beautiful. If you follow the Scenic Route sign and follow it along you will pass through a rain forest and by a Botanical Garden. There are beautiful cliffs and you are able to walk down carefully.

Took the short and easy hike down the Onomea Trail a couple of days ago ( don't get this confused with Donkey Trail, this one is different). Awesome walk through beautiful trees, plants and flowers with scenic views of the bay. We continued straight where...More

We took the 4 mile scenic drive and stopped here for the overlook and realized we could walk down. The road is the back entrance to the botanical gardens and there is a narrow walking path that leads down to the beach. The water looked...More
