My wife and I were in the area for the day to see antebellum homes. The lady on duty gave some solid recommendations for walking tours and hooked us up with an excellent guided tour later in the day. Definitely would recommend as a starting point for visiting Athens.

Nice visitors center with parking in the center of town. Added bonus is the Church-Waddel-Brumby House. Possibly the oldest house in Athens. Sparsely furnished in a Federal Style and well kept.

Took this tour while our kids were deciding on college choices. They did a great job of showing us around.

Stopped by for Athens information as well as the Heritage Tour. Warm friendly greeting. Easily assisted us in the purchase of the tour tickets which included a tour of the oldest house in Athens ( now the Welcome Center), then continued on a mini-bus for a great tour of the area. I think our driver/guide was Sylvia who was awesome... More

The Welcome Center is actually the Church-Waddel-Brumby house circa 1820. It is a beautiful little house that was moved from its original site, saved from demolition. The information I received was great.....it included a street with original cobblestones, very charming neighborhoods with wonderfully old Greek Revival homes.

We've stopped by a couple of times and we have now taken one of their Architecture in Athens Tours. Everyone is very helpful and provides knowledgeable commentary on Athens, it's history and what is available now.

We stopped in on Saturday morning, 10/22 with only a few hours to enjoy Athens. The staff member on duty( and I'm sorry for not remembering his name) was so pleasant and helpful. He shared some history of the center & the city & recommended 2 local attractions. Then suggested we hit the downtown for lunch. We did just that... More

Surprised and pleased this welcome center was different than others. A tour was offered for only $15 to tour this historic building and listen to the stories, but taking the mini-bus around Athens with a driver and tour guide, learned so much and had fun as well. Highly recommended.

Really helpful lady sorted us out with information and maps for Athens and beyond. The centre is in the historic Church-Waddel-Brumby house which you can self tour with an information leaflet. Well worth a visit. No charge but with a voluntary contribution.
