Living in Athens for 14 years this is a must when walking around downtown Athens Sits in front of the courthouse not far from the famous Arch of the University of Georgia Read the plaque and discover why this was the only one built....

It is a cannon that has two barrels. It is in front of City Hall in Athens GA. Not sure what else I can say about it. Interesting to check out, but there's not much to it other than to read the plaque nearby.

This unique double-barreled cannon was created for possible use during the Civil War, but never actually saw action. It was one of those "better in theory than in practice" creations, but a great unique item for history buffs to find.

Pretty much as exciting as it seems. Not tremendously thrilling, but what can you say? It is indeed a double barreled cannon. Go Dawgs.

This is a real cannon. It was forged at the Chicopee Mill (home of UGA Physical Plant now) when it was a foundry. (It was later a Johnson and Johnson gauze mill, hence the "mill" in the name.) The idea was to fire 2 cannonballs...More

Only double barrel canon ever built. Varying stories about the canon exist, but they all end in disaster and the civil war went on without it.

Where else do they display a piece of junk that didn't prove practical for the civil war as a must see attraction. Folks there is a lot to see and do in Athens and the surrounding communities, but it is time to melt this oddity...More

What a strange and twisted contraption! I understand their concept but execution of the design proved it was not a good one. Pretty tough to time the firing of both cannon barrels thus a dire outcome for whoever was in the wrong place the one...More
