My friend and I visited Tikal in Guatemala last year and so we were keen to visit the Copan site while we were in Honduras. We arrived at Copan just before 8am and bought tickets as soon as the office opened. There were only a few people there at this time so you have the park pretty much to yourself... More

I met some cool Brits in the morning on the shuttle on the way to Copan. We all wanted to check them out so we booked a room at the Iguana Azul Hostel and then walked the 1km to the gate of the ruins. The staff were friendly and have tour guides if you desire (for a charge). We walked... More

We Stayed 2 days in Copan ruinas and really enjoyed it. The best experience we had there was a horse ride with Margarito Vega, the best guide of Copan! Margarito knows a lot about Copan and the Mayas and is also extremely friendly and really good fun! It is better to go directly to him instead of booking a horse... More

Viewing an ancient culture that existed from thousands of years BC to over 800 years AD in one afternoon was mind boggling! Our top-notch tour guide Oscar, provided a very informative and detailed description of all we saw, while still making it interesting, well-paced and at times humorous. Seeing the various stages of the renovation, from mounds of unearthed ruins,... More

For anyone who has been to Chichen or Tikal, this is the next great city. Very different and, of course, fascinating. I highly recommending spend extra for a tour. See if Maritza is available, she is excellent and has a lot of experience.

Very well preserved by comparison to some other Mayan sites. The coolest thing is the scarlet macaws - they are everywhere showing off their squawking and plumage!

This TripAdvisor site seems to be confused between the town of Copan Ruinas and the archeological ruins - Copan There are no hotels by the ruins. It is a little hike from town - not bad or could use tuk-tuk. You must have a guide to be able to get a feeling of this site - or read a book... More

Well we didn't take a guide so not sure how much we missed. I did find that from my eavesdropping in the sculpture museum that the guide was giving slightly more information than the signs. We had a book that described the different temples and stela so it wasn't so bad but if you can afford a guide why not.... More

loved it all.. nice to see the makaws as well.. took us a half day as ruins are not of great interest to us. However, an education to be had by all and a guide is the best way to see the site.
