This museum is a joy to visit. The architecture and presentation of exhibits enhance the visitor's ability to learn and appreciate Maya and area culture. I particularly enjoyed the excellent dioramas of village life and an excellent display of costumes. I learned many interesting facts about the artifacts and their uses. The exhibits are well-lit and comfortably spaced for perspective.... More

Took a chance re entering Guat City to try to visit some of the better sites.we did manage to find and tour this museum, but being in the heart of the city made for a horrible trip. The chicken buses send out ridiculous amounts o black diesel smoke, as do the trucks and occasional car. It is so bad that... More

The national museum of archeology and ethnology is a great museum. It features many Mayan sculptures, bowls, music instruments, jewels, figurine, tools... Some of the artefacts are very impressive (size and detail). The artefacts are sorted by chronological order. Most of the information is in Spanish and in English, but some is only in Spanish. The ethnology section is a... More

Small, but very beautiful! I am not a big fan of the archaeology museums and went there only because it is across the street from Modern Art Museum and I am so glad I did. Some pices are so gorgeous, you just can not go away from them! Best thing in Guatemala City

The museum has a number of very special permeant exhibits. There is the vault with the amazing jade pieces from archaeological sites in the country as well the actual wood lintels form temples at Tikal. They have recently remodeled the Preclassic exhibits and here are some lovely textiles on view as well.

The National Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology is a great place to spend a few hours. It is located in a park, but oddly enough nobody in the area seemed to know it, or if they did, they did not know how to get there. A helpful motorcycle police officer sent us the wrong way and we ended up at... More

I wasn't expecting much, but this is nice little visit if you have some time in Guato. I only linger on the nicer pieces, and I was able to finish the visit in 90 minutes. While there are hundreds of pieces, only a small portion of them are stunners. The throne from Piedras Negras was my favorite. It is a... More

This museum was amazing and offered so much history displayed as original works. Everything was labeled so museum-goers would know exactly what/where the items were.
