Mayans enter through the front door, but others are relegated to the side door of this unusual 1540 church which combines Catholic and Mayan spiritual practices.

We had a guide who explained the history of this church, which was fascinating. It was wonderful to learn that the Mayan people and the Catholics share a church and have a joint service. Loved the background to the Mayan alters and the ceremonies performed...More

Another Catholic Church where the Mayan mix the official Christian religion with their traditional believes. There are several altars dedicated to Mayan divinities and where they perform rituals. A very interesting cultural mixture.

You must go see this beautiful Roman Catholic church when you're in the area. The 18 steps are usually full of beautiful flowers & burning incense. The history is so interesting. It was built around 1545 upon a pre columbian temple platform. It was refurbished...More

This church is located in the market and offers a fascinating mix of the Maya and Catholic traditions. A tour takes maybe10 minutes and is well worth it. Like most places in Guatemala, the guides were excellent, spoke English and did not make you feel...More

Beautiful church. In front is the market, which has taken over what would be a gorgeous plaza. 6 more characters needed to get to 100.

While walking through Chichicastenango, make sure to visit the Santo Tomás Church built in the mid 1500s where you'll see a mix of both Catholic and Maya traditions under one roof.

A lovely church surrounded by flower sellers on market days. If you want to see an AWESOME church go to San Andres just outside of Xela. (Only 2 hours away from ChiChi by chicken bus)

As such the church was not spectacular but the the history and the fact that both faiths are mixed is interesting. The maya tables in the middle of the alleyway corresponding to the Maya calendar and the various lights on them were unusual. A shaman...More

We saw just the outside of this but it looked like an interesting church. It was market day and Easter Sunday when we went so there were people crowding the stairs but it was nice to see the church decorated for Easter.
