I had heard of Habitat for Humanity and a visit to their discovery center and global village provided me with an indepth view of their mission. The short film before you enter the village is informative and the village is nicely done.

I've certainly heard about Habitat for Humanity, but didn't realize the extent of their work until visiting this village. After a short introductory film, my wife and I did a self tour of the presentation. The "village" first encountered was an extensive section that presents the way the organization does NOT want people to live in. It's jaw-droppingly real that... More

The village starts with an example of slum living conditions. Then there are 20 full size homes that have been built to help people out of the slum homes. These homes are examples from all over the world. We really enjoyed our visit.

This was not a destination, but a well worthwhile stop along the way. Takes about an hour to go thru the exhibit. You start in the "before" area showing you the type of housing where no human should have to exist. Then you see the "after" area which is arranged by country, showing you the type of housing created in... More

OK, we all know about Habitat for Humanity. Started by the Jimmy Carters and one of his pet projects, right? Wrong ! ! ! ! Started by Millard and Linda Fuller in 1976. That was just the FIRST "wow" moment in the excursion. The six acres in the Global Village is full of many "wow" moments. I had a hard... More

We've been to Americus many times to visit family and are always looking for things to do! We found the Global Village on TripAdvisor and decided to check it out! I'm so glad we did! It was very interesting! My seven year old son thought it was fun as he ran to each house and stamped his "passport". It was... More

I was passing through Georgia and wanted to find something interesting for the kids to see (2 and 3). Having participated in H4H activities in College, building houses for the underserved, I really welcomed the opportunity to support Habitat once more. The Global Village is a live view at how different communities live in their current situation and how they... More

I have been to many of the countries that are represented in the housing structures on the Global Village site and I have to say it's a fair representation of how people live in those countries. What you don't see is the abject poverty then generally accompanies those neighborhoods or the people crowded into one room. These are examples of... More

I have built a few Habitat homes abroad and went here to see the model homes. I've come back with friends because it is a very insightful way to show poverty housing and what Habitat can provide as affordable, sustainable housing in its place. Activities for youngsters (stamp your "passport" at every house), geared toward school groups, but informative for... More
