This was a significant let down. After having walked the jungle in Monkey River and how much our tour guide there taught us … our guide here was less than animated and just walked … I could have passed on this one. But if you...More

This was a beautiful park, but I only arrived to it after driving a few miles down an unpaved road. It definitely makes sense to be a tad far from traffic, given the wildlife, but it made me nervous about my safety after a second....More

Hiking/walking available for all fitness levels. Lots of birds, good information from Belize Audubon Society people on site. Look for the pendulous nests of Oropendola (aka Yellow Tails by the locals) on your way in. Time of year makes a big difference in what you'll...More

There is a small butterfly farm across the road from the Mayan Cultural Center at the entrance to the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Preserve. Walk down the trail, across the bridge and you will find the farm, wait for the children to notice you. The enclosure...More

Staff gave us a lot of information about the area. Because my son-in-law is a retired Fish & Wildlife officer we had a great time visiting with them.

The trails are well maintained and are clearly marked. It can absolutely be done without a guide. Bug repellant is highly recommended!

Hopkins is closer, but I am not sure how you would get there unless you go with a tour company. It is six miles off the highway and I doubt there is any bus that goes up there.
