The forrest has been hit hard by the pine beetle but it is recovering. The good news is that there are so many activites around you dont even notice.

Best way to see it is by horseback. Great to see it recovering from the fire. Beautiful views from on top. Great network of horse trails. Big Rock Falls was awesome.

Remote, removed from the "real world". Well worth a visit if you have the time and a reliable car.

There are quite a few sites up in the MPR, including, several waterfalls and caves. There are also several resorts up there. You drive through the MPR on the way to the Caracol Mayan ruins. It's the largest pine forest in Central America. The roads are bumpy, but the scenery is beautiful, and the trip up is worth it if... More

This area is not what you would expect when you think of Belize. It is pine savanna habitat as opposed to the typical rainforest. But it is quite beautiful in its own way. Don't be fooled by the distances on the map. The roads are rough, rutted, steep and sometimes washed out by rain. The scenery is worth it, but don't go without a guide.
