We took a tour of the jungle on a Polaris through this reserve. We ended up at Sapodilla Waterfall we had a nice picnic and a swim. On the way we stopped at a cavern which was beautiful. We were the only people at both locations so if you're into "off the beaten path" definitely check out those two areas.

good roads and bad roads Mountain Pine Ridge. A place to take some beautiful views and nature. You will definitely need a SUV and preferably a 4 wheel drive vehicle

We rented a 4x4 car in San Ignacio (Matus car rental) instead of doing a guided tour. The park was easy to find and you don't have to pay any entrance fee but just register at the gate. There are signs everywhere to show the way except for big rock falls. For this one just take the road to Gaia... More

This is a very different area than the rest of Belize and is worth the visit to the area. For Bird Watchers this is the only area in Belize you will see...yes...Acorn Woodpeckers.

This would have been a great place to visit before the pine beetles ate all the trees. But there are some great hotels in the area, and wonderful swimming in the rivers.

The road is very poor (after a rain we wondered if we might get stuck in mud in a couple spots) and the scenery is unimpressive. I read a couple reviews comparing it to the southern Appalachians but I think that is too generous. There are some good sites within the MPR (e.g. Rio On Pools and Rio Frio Cave)... More

Many sites to enjoy over 2 or so days - waterfalls, swimming ponds, caves, there's real variety here for soft adventuring. Even mountain biking on Bronson Trail. Best enjoyed with a good guide.
