Walking along the West Maroon Creek Road offers some of the most spectacular and accessible views in the Aspen area. There are walks for all age groups and all levels of physical capacity. Sally sez you should try to get to Crater Lake, if you have the time and the energy - it will take about two hours roundtrip -... More

We had an incredible time on our hike over West Maroon Pass. We hiked from the Aspen side (starting at the Maroon Lake Trailhead) to the East Fork Trailhead on the Crested Butte side. We were well prepared and used almost all of the extra gear we brought with the changing conditions. It was our first time doing this hike.... More

Crowds at the Lake Photographing but you can hike and about after two miles, you have the West Maroon Trail in solitude. Also, good to hike to Crater Lake (1.5 mi. OW), all the way up West Maroon Trail to West Maroon Pass (13 mi. RT) or up East Maroon/Snowmass Tr to Buckskin Pass (9 mi. RT). Or you can... More

25th anniversary hike with hubby 4 months after hip replacement surgery. It is doable. Easier from Crested Butte to Aspen because Aspen is 1000' lower elevation. Dolly's Mountain Shuttle (Crested Butte) helped us to Schofield Trailhead to start. RFTI shuttle from Maroon Lake to Aspen Highlands, connecting to another shuttle to Aspen. Easy logistics. Dolly's Mountain Shuttle can take you... More

This has been a "bucket list" hike for me. Starting on the Crested Butte side at 7:30 a.m. and 33 degrees, we made our way up through wildflower fields to the pass at 12,400 ft. Quite a few people were congregated there. Going down toward Aspen we passed more flowers, walked through thick willows, passed waterfalls, big mountains, lakes &... More

Came to check out the wildflowers. At this time they were more in the higher elevation, so we chose this trail. What a view we had of everything! Mountains and flowers and snow! Would rate it Moderate, goes 5.5 miles I believe to do the loop. Be careful coming down the shorter but steeper way. We lost the trail in... More

We hiked as a group of thirteen, from Aspen to Crested Butte, with one night stay in CB, then hiked the same trail back to Aspen. It was a perfect time to do it, with spectacular wildflowers and colorful terrain from CB to Aspen, and roaring streams from Aspen to CB. Other hikers on the trail were friendly and we... More

We are a family of 5, ages 14-53 with varying fitness/health levels. We set out to hike this trail excited, yet having our doubts that all of us were fit enough to complete it. This is a technical trail in that there are boulders to hike over and fast flowing streams to cross - think 2 streams in all. For... More

This is a 'guest-review' from my brother-in-law - I was on the hike too and plan to write my own review soon: "You are living in fear." That's what a friend told me last year when she saw the lengths I had gone, to gear up and prepare for a long, high-country day-hike through fall weather in Alaska. I absently... More

A beautiful walk, as is the walk via East Maroon Creek trail, through the pines and Aspen trees ultimately ending up in Crested Butte, Colorado about 25 miles away, seeing vast expanses of wild flowers...It's not unusual for there to be snow high up, even in middle to late Summer, depending on how much snow we've had all year long....
