We were all 70 y/o and flatlanders but managed to hike without much difficulty to the top. Two of used walking sticks which really helped. Alpine lake at the top is beautiful.

really enjoyed this - you go straight up from Independence Pass and it is fairly steep and rocky - but the lake at the top is stunning. Bring good shoes and an extra jacket.

Ya know what? I haven't hiked everything in Colorado, but I've done some, and heard and read about a lot more, and this lake is probably one of the most accessible alpine lakes that *also* won't have 1,000 of your best friends there with you....More

Anyone who is looking for peace of mind should definitely look for this trail, it is somewhat steep, very close to Independence pass, but, once you reach the top, you will get a spectacular view of lake and it is absolutely quiet at the top,...More
