It's about 6.5 miles roundtrip with 2000ft elevation change. It's like doing stairmaster the whole way up with amazing scenary. Bring at least 24oz of water each. Frigid but refreshing dip at the top.

Great hike with beauty of a lake at the summit of the trail. A true gem this close to town. Very nice vistas and crystal clear water.

Lovely trail moderate difficulty with lots of switchbacks in the beginning. I'm told the highlight besides the lovely alpine lake are wildflowers. This year has been dry and they weren't as plentiful. You will ascend through Aspen trees into pine groves and then up to...More

We hiked this trail on the 4th of July. It wasn’t very crowded and there was plenty of parking at the trail head. This is a gorgeous hike that goes through Aspen groves, pine trees and finally to the lake. The lake itself was beautiful...More

A somewhat difficult and long hike to the top, but well worth the excertion. The top fort reminded me of the native plants one would expect in the wet climate of the Midwest.

Follow the map and you can find this trail head. A small parking lot near the base, but not too hard to find. It is only 10-12 miles from downtown Aspen. The total trail is about 3.5 miles each way. Don't quit after the first...More

This was an arduous hike, parts of it pretty steep and exhausting; then the trail levels off a bit and there is an easy walk through a gorgeous forest, then the gradient picks back up. The payoff is the most stunning lake surrounded by snow...More

This is a nice hike but there are so many great hikes around Aspen this is not in my top five. It starts off pretty steep switch backing through an Aspen grove. There are a few nice overlooks along the way. Once you reach the...More

This is a challenging 2.8 mi hike with 1,965 vertical feet. The lake is very nice, nestled up against cliffs, so it's great exercise on a very well defined trail, but this hike becomes totally remarkable in September when the Aspen leaves have turned and...More

We did this hike 4th of July weekend. The trail is pretty steep for the first 1.5 miles or so (switchbacks through Aspen trees). The trail is a bit narrow in spots so watch your footing when passing others. You will have some respites from...More
