A gal at the courthouse told us about this museum. Don't know we would have gone without her encouragement. The two docents were so nice and totally knowledgeable. We got to investigate the entire house. Well presented and it totally honors the people of Placer County.

This comment was made by the docent who provided me with a tour at the old Bernhard Museum Complex. This is on the Auburn-Folsom Road, just as you're getting into Auburn, CA. It is an old Victorian house and is in pretty good shape now, although it had been ignored by the county (owner of the house and the acreage... More

Bernhard Museum has alot of history, and has been restored to victorian era. Only a few original pieces exist in the house but is furnished nicely for the period. Great tour guides, very knowledgeable about the house's history and the Bernhard family who lived there. Many furniture pieces are interesting. My wife played the old pioneer piano in the family... A historical look at Auburn, from clothing to gold panning items. This old 1849 gold rush town prides itself in sharing the past with the present.

We had a docent led tour of the main house, grounds and carriage house. The Docent was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and she was even dressed in period costume to fit in with the period of the home. The house is gorgeous inside and filled with antique items from the era, staged as though the family had just left it.... More

The docents will greet you and are dressed in period clothing. The old home has so much history and is always a joy to visit. Out of town visitors are always impressed, especially oldsters as they often reminisce over the old furnishings.

We visited this morning and there were school kids there learning what life was like in the 1870's. The docents were full of history and information. There are lots of things to see, but unfortunately, the upstairs was closed to visitors. We plan to go back soon.

THe Bernhard house is filled with many beautiful artifacts. My favorite room is the fully set dining room table. The original kitchen doesn't look like our modern kitchens of today. The Living History Program brings the parents and children back to the 1890's. Cooking is quite a challenge for the modern day chef. It is beautifully decorated for Christmas. The... More

My favorite of the museums. It was once stagecoach stop then became a winery and private home. Lots of old carriages and wagons to see include a still function horse drawn hearse.
