Nice spot!

We walk our dog around Sunken Gardens and it's the perfect short walk! Lots of community events take place here throughout the year.

We were lucky to visit the first day of the Wednesday Market. Hope it continues! Also treated to a performance by a local ballet school on the steps of City Hall. Way to go, Atascadero!

The city hall seems well built with good architecture. The fountain outside the city hall in the park looks nice with paved paths all around. the water looked all soapy, so didn't let kids touch it. Maybe a nice hangout for locals.

The amount of juvineles with nothing to do and homeless people makes the sunken gardens a creepy park.

The Sunken Gardens is a lovely trip back thru time, well maintained and a nice place to stroll. You can't miss the magnificent historic city hall building in the next block, which offers free docent tours(check website).

The city hall building nearby reminds me of the Pantheon in Rome, but when we were there, it was closed. I have seen some pictures of the inside from websites, and they appear to be quite fabulous. Maybe it worthy a quick stop/break if you are passing through highway 101

The Sunken Gardens in Atascadero, CA is a beautiful park that is the perfect place to take a break from the daily grind, have a picnic lunch, let your children run and play or just enjoy the outdoors in the middle of town.

There is not much to see in downtown Atascadero, but this is worth the short drive off the 101 freeway to see the park, fountain and beautifully, restored, historical city hall.

This is a great place to go and relax, toss a Frisbee with your dog, or sit and enjoy the view of the central fountain or the Historic Administration building.

I know it sounds strange...but being a long time resident of Atascadero, there was a time when the Sunken Gardens were NOT very pretty. Those times are in the past. With a newly renovated city hall (it was even in the movie My Blue Heaven with Steve Martin y'all!!!!)--it's darling. So sit under a huge old oak and have a... More
