Fantasmic! is a combination of live action and projected Disney images and movie clips on a mist screen. It features fireworks, pyrotechnics, lasers, searchlights, decorated boats, water effects and animatronics, all coordinated to various familiar sound clips taken from Disney movies and broadcasts.
It is usually performed twice a night on the Rivers of America from Tom Sawyer’s Island and lasts about 25 minutes.
Better seating for the reserved sections can be obtained for visitors who purchase a dining package at the Blue Bayou, New Orleans Square Restaurant, River Belle Terrace or Hungry Bear Restaurant. Our reserved area from the Blue Bayou was close to the water in the middle section and included a foam pad to sit on.
The basic story is a voyage through Mickey Mouse's imagination that culminates in a battle against various Disney Villains.
This show is an enjoyable experience and should NOT be missed.

We can here with a 9 year old and a 3 year old and they couldn't manage to stay awake till the start of the show, so it ended up being just the dad solo watching it. The first day I made the mistake and didn't book a Fastpass and ended up way back, behind a tree watching the show over every ones heads from an angle. Even from there is was suitable impressive with big boat scenes and characters up in the sky. Fire and Dragons and so much more.
The second day I decided to do and so booked the fast pass and then got there about 30 mintues before the start of the event... I got a great front row viewing point but they then told us that the show might not run as the wind was a little high and then 10 minutes later than cancelled the event. Was disappointing as wasted 30 minutes waiting for a show that never materialised.
Short story.. Even a mild breeze, don't bother waiting for the show. As the actors are high up in the air, they won't risk running the show if there are any winds and if they are light they skip some of the fireworks..

We were excited to watch this show. We showed up 1hr early and got told to move behind a white rope that pushed us back. The system they have is terrible. My kids wanted to go back to the hotel because there legs were sore from standing. We were told to stand up by disney staff. There are so many people you might get lucky to glimpse it. People squeeze infront of you, its like your packed in like sardines. They need a better system. After the show you have to hold onto your children and family its like a mob rush after. People can get divided very easily. Fantastic show if your able to get on the front without being pushed back
They need to rethink this show seating.

I was so looking forward to watching as I had many times previously. I could not see a thing. Disney staff had many areas cordoned off for VIPs and while sitting on the ground waiting for the show we were told to by Disney staff rather rudely to stand up and move closer together a full 30 before the show. They need a better system, I have enjoyed the show so much in the past but at 5’2” with a bunch of people standing in front of me I could not see a thing.

Fantasmic is one of my daughter's favorite things to do at Disney, but it hadn't been performed the last few times we were there. When she found out it was back, we had to go. But like so many things at Disney, you have to invest some time and effort in order to get a good viewing spot, especially if you have vertically challenged people in your group. You can get Fast Passes for Fantasmic, or you can purchase special Dining Packages that also get you special seating. We chose the Hungry Bear option (you can also do River Belle or Blue Bayou - both pricier options that are "dine in."). You show up at a "reserved" time and choose from one of four options. Then you get a "to go" bag so you can take the food with you to eat elsewhere in the park, or you can just stay at the Hungry Bear (note: the food that comes with the dining package is fancier than the typical Hungry Bear option and my teenage kids didn't enjoy their meals very much). Then you queue up about an hour before show time near the Harbor Cove restaurant - this is a bit tricky to navigate in that there is NO signage and you need to queue with the specific dining package you purchased - as my daughter quickly figured out - the more you pay for your dining package, the better your view of the stage. Ask Cast Members where to stand - it is not obvious. People begin queuing before the suggested 8:00 time and those earlier in the queue will get first pick of seating when the group is led in about 45 minutes before show time. Also, those who pay more appear to get a padded cushion in their package - those cobblestones get hard quickly and you are required to sit during the performance. Or bring your own blankets/cushions. There are three water "screens" where the animated visuals are projected. The reserved seating gets you closer to the center screen and affords the best view of the stage. If you sit in the first few rows, you will get a mist from the water effects in the show, which would be good on a hot evening, but we were there when it was chillier and we needed jackets. You can exit the area once you have been seated, but there won't be enough time to visit any rides - but you can take a bathroom break or go get coffee/dessert - just ask the cast member to give you a ticket so you can get back in. Once the show starts, it is much the same as previous versions, but now the pirate ship battle is based on Pirates of the Caribbean and it seemed like there were some other minor changes - my daughter said the dragon was missing - I honestly don't remember - the show doesn't make a lot of narrative sense - it is a loose storyline to allow them to incorporate as many different movies/characters as possible. You get Mickey, fireworks, water effects, fireworks, boats and rafts and music - the whole thing is pretty fabulous (I think it is much more dynamic a show than the fireworks). IF you go to the earlier showing of Fantasmic, you can stay in your spot and watch the Fireworks which start immediately after. They project the images that appear on Cinderella's Castle on the water screens. It isn't quite the same as watching from in front of the castle (you won't see the flying effects or all of the fireworks), but it is still a fairly decent vantage point. If you are going to invest time in securing a good spot for a show, I think Fantasmic is a better choice than the current PixarFest Fireworks show.

We love Fantasmic. It is truly spectacular and fun for everyone except very young who may be a bit frightened. Over the years we have sat on the lawn for hours, saving spots for our wandering family members. Several years ago we paid for a dessert package that provided chairs and hot drinks. That is gone now, but I think the deal is even sweeter.
A Fantasmic package is now offered at the Blue Bayou and one other restaurant that allows entry into an area right in front of the action, where guests are required to sit, not stand. I am sure everyone there has a clear view of this iconic attraction. The Blue Bayou provides a very nice menu, with almost as many offerings as the regular dinner menu. We were all very happy with our meal and the package actually costs less than what we paid for the dessert package years ago. They include a "souvenir" cushion, really just an inch thick piece of foam, in the Fantasmic dinner package. We had a great time at the dinner and the show, with what amounted to front row "cushions."
My advice, if you want to take advantage of the dinner package--call Disney Dining sixty days in advance. Do not wait, as these reservations go fast. On the day of your reservation, go by an hour ahead of time to let them know of any special needs or diet concerns and to check how their schedule is going (try to get early reservations between five and six o'clock so that you are not hurried if things are slow). If they tell you to line up for your Fantasmic package half an hour early, be there much earlier. One person can hold the space while the others shop around or even go on a ride. Good seating for Fantasmic is a very big deal.
Watch your little ones as they see their favorite characters float by, as fire lights up the river, as fireworks and magic light the sky! Again, the very young might be a bit frightened by the noise and fireworks, but most everyone will agree that this is an amazing show!

The Fantasmic show in front of New Orleans Square in Adventureland at Disneyland California is a must see! Hosted by Mickey with all the classic characters you always want to see. It has been updated with a new Pirates of the Caribbean portion of the show. There are two show each evening at 9pm and 10:30. The show is 30 min long. There is a standing only viewing area on the side close to Haunted Mansion. You can use a fast pass to be in a closer section to view. If you reserve a dinning package you can receive a ticket for a closer sit down viewing area closer to the water and stage. However, there are three tiers to the dinning and seating packages. The Hungry Bear Restaurant has a dining package $30 adult/$20 child meal and ticket option . This is the cheapest option. And if you have family members that want a burger and fries or might not appreciate the meal options of the other restaurants- this might be a good option. The sitting zone is close to the water and directly in front of the stage. But, you are sitting on the ground. If you book a reservation at the River Belle restaurant it is the same thing. Sitting on the ground- unless you book the PREMIERE dining reservation that has a section closer to the Cafe Orleans that you can sit in chairs further away from the water. If you book the last reservation at 8 pm. You can stay in the River Belle restaurant terrace seats to view the Fantasmic 9pm show. The Blue Bayoo restaurant also has the dinning and ticket option and the PREMIERE dining ticket option. You can book a lunch or dinner reservation to qualify for a ticket to Fantasmic. I recommend that you check the menus of these restaurants to make sure you will enjoy the food and the show.

During previous visits to Disneyland we reserved fast passes for the show. We sat on the ground while waiting and then were able to stand up. Not the best view but worth the fast pass. This time around we decided to buy the reserved seating dining package with River Belle Terrace. The food was okay, the service was great and we were excited to see the new show from reserved seating. When left the restaurant, we were told to check in about an hour before the show at a designated entrance, we found other people actually were allowed in early, but no big deal. We were taken to our area and we thought we had a great view right next to the people that bought dining packages with Blue Bayou, that was until the show was about to begin. After sitting on hard, cold Cobblestone for over an hour, we were told to stay sitting down so people behind us could see. The ground is not slanted, it's all flat, I struggled to comprehend how sitting down was of any advantage to them unless they were standing. If you were sitting behind a person taller than you, all you would see was the back of their heads. We were all tightly packed in and for those of us close to the front we had the beautiful rod iron fence that goes around the Lagoon blocking our view. The whole point of buying these dining packages is to have preferred viewing, had I known the reality, I would have just gotten a fast pass and stood with the others in that area, they had a much better view than we did. The people in front of us, directly behind the fence asked a cast member if their child could stand up, sitting down all the child could see were the rod iron bars, which was all we could see as well. I just saw a new post on Disneyland's Facebook site with a picture that showed exactly the view we had and they were also upset about paying for dining reserved viewing just to end up watching the show through the bars of a iron fence. My hips were burning from sitting on the cold, hard ground for nearly two hours, my neck was super sore from trying to look up from my sitting position to see above the fence, my kid got to see very little. The picture is our view from the second row behind the rod iron fence. As you can see nothing happening at water level is visible and anything at mid-level was still hard to see above the fence itself. I felt sorry for the people behind the lamp post who were sitting behind it with no way to look around it. This is the third time we see the show (previous version) and we have always stood for it, but it's the first time I paid for premium view, I don't think I'm doing this again.

We went to the Blue Bayou restaurant and purchased the deal with special Fantasmic seating. I have to say - the Blue Bayou reserved seating is Front-and-Center, and they give you a keepsake sitting pad to sit on during the show. It's about the closest I've ever been to one of these Disney fire and smoke extravaganzas. If you really want the Full Fantasmic experience, and you have to eat dinner anyway, it's about $60/person for the deal.
The show was kind of weird, for my taste. Mickey is dreaming and then all the Disney villains laugh maniacally and attack him with fire and dragons and more maniacal laughing, but he beats them at the end with the magic of Disney. There is a lot of water sprayed to make a kind of movie screen, so that was different. They even use the Pirate ship and the steam paddle boat as part of the show. That was exciting. The kids around me seemed to enjoy it, and we were all sitting comfortably on comfy seats with plenty of space right in the middle of the action. So if you like Blue Bayou anyway and you want to see Mickey beat the villains, I call it a very good albeit pricey experience - but that's Disney.

Add to that comfortable seating a wonderful snack box and hotchocolet(almost any bevragenyou wanted)
Great break from walking and and brilliant show and snack.

Can you do Fantasmic 1st show and then fireworks and World of Color in one night?
Written 15 April 2019
For those who have been to Fantasmic this summer since it re-opened and have used the Blue Bayou or Cafe Orleans/Riverbelle Terrace dining package: are strollers allowed in the "seating" preferred viewing area? I'm pretty sure our 2 yo will be passed out by then and he will not continue to sleep if we try to move him to our arms.
Written 29 August 2017
We were in the Blue Bayou area and there were no strollers in our section. You basically sit on the ground to watch the show. As Dean R noted, all strollers in all sections were lined up in the back of each section.

We are 4 adults looking for advice on the Fantasmic 8 pm Dining Pkg at River Belle Terrace. Is is worth the price and is the seated viewing area at the restaurant good. Or is it just as good to get a Fastpass to view the show. For $60 US a person am wondering the pros and cons. Any advice is appreciated.
Written 23 July 2017
They reserved some of the best seats for Fastpass & their VIP guests. Some people buy their foods and eat at the VIP seatings. An average meal here is about $20 per person. Other people would make a dinner reservation at the River Belle Terrace. It's not too far away. But when the show starts, you will have to stand up. The view is obstructed, but you will be able to see the show.

will this be open Jan 2,2017?, if so what time are the shows?. we will have a 2 year old with us,along with a 7,8,9, year old, will it be too scary for a 2 year old?
Written 7 December 2016
Yes, there is currently one show scheduled at 7pm. It is likely fine for your 2yo - there is one scene with villains but the rest is nice. There are loud noises and fireworks which some kids can find scary. My advice would be to get a seat on the aisle so if your 2yo is really unhappy you can easily leave :)

Hi We are visiting May 24-27 2016 are the fireworks and fantasmic show on every evening or just certain days? Also I've read that there are Grad Nights on 23 and 25 May. Should we avoid the park during those days. Our kids are 9 and 12. Thanks
Written 15 March 2016
Fantasmic is closed this year due to the park renovations. It will not reopen until 2017. The fireworks are on weekends during the school year, nightly during the summer. I would avoid grad night mainly because they close the park early to the public on those nights. I don't have the fireworks schedule, it's usually only published a month or so ahead of time.

Thinking of booking the aladdins oasis grab and go meal and fast pass ticket when we go in September. Does anyone know if the seating is good with these fast pass or is it better to get there early and get a fast pass from the fast pass machine?
Written 24 July 2015
I did the Aladdin's Oasis package in Feb. The tickets you receive provide no viewing advantage over those who walk up same day with a fast pass. What it does guarantee is you won't be locked out if fast passes are gone. If you want a better view consider one of the better packages. Two other thoughts; The food at Aladdin's Oasis is not very good and there are no seats at the show. It's suggested you arrive up to 90 minutes in advance, and you are expected to stand the entire time!

Sorry, but you will need to be a little more specific about what you are asking before anyone can answer your question. Not sure what "pads" you are talking about, if you are referencing a specific review, you might cut and paste that part into your question to help get an answer.

Is this show only on at night? I was looking at the "food to go" options on the Disney site and it had food options for lunchtime… so I am confused as to whether there are daytime performances or just two evening shows?
