I stopped by Union Market recently with a friend, and we really enjoyed all the food we tried at the market! We were so excited by all the choices and decided to share on item from several vendors so we could try more food! With so many vendors serving so many kinds of food (Italian, Venezuelan, Chinese, Thai, Jewish deli, and more), so we made several loops of the market before we decided what we wanted to try most! We ended up sharing Som Tam Pla Ra (a green papaya salad with lots of fermented fish sauce and more) from Som Tam, ginger chicken dumplings from Laoban Dumplings, and gravlax crostini from Neopol Savory Smokery. All the food was good, but the winner of the day was the Som Tam Pla Ra from Som Tam! So delicious. We also got some coffees to go from Peregrine Espresso. The market had lots of seating inside and outside. And it offers so many choices for a great lunch! I'd love to go back to Union Market when I'm next in DC!

Very cool place to visit. We were soaked when we arrived by foot on Sunday after walking several blocks in the rain. Lots of vendors to choose from. Not much seating but we found a place without problem.

Banana Blossom: Pho Ga…after ordering told they were out of chicken and offered to replace with another protein (fine with this).

Then, they said “we got you”…apparently they “found some chicken”. (Okaaay).

I asked for Thai Basil and they said no problem, it’s gonna be added to the bean spout bag (great!)

Given bad with basil and jalapeños (?)

Me: hey, could I please have some bean spouts with this? Them: sorry, we’re out. (Oh.)

Food was good and hot, but I basically had broth noodles with green onions and a couple mystery pieces of chicken…kind of wished I had a complete dish ($17)

Very large variety of fresh cooked foods. Along with a butcher and fish monger. A few stores a bar and a sit down restaurant. No repetition of food. Drawbacks, indoor seating and people cleaning tables. Located in a neighborhood that is up and coming. I had the BBQ and was happy. My equal had the Ramen and was very happy. Plenty of outdoor seating, however it is Washington. You get cold winters and humid summers, so it is not very useful for half the year at minumum.

Been to DC several times and hadn’t been here so we tried it for lunch. So many food vendors of all types that we basically stopped at several places and shared many different things. Plenty of seating outside. It was fun to walk around that area and see other places as well.

The Hi-Lawn rooftop space at Union Market can get pretty crowded on weekends so finally found an opportunity to check it out on a weekday. Only thing is Mon-Thurs the rooftop doesn't open until 3 pm so can't go during lunch time. Anyway on a weekday the place is very quiet, just a few people sitting around at tables and on the lawn, so no need for reservations or having to wait. You can bring food and non alcoholic beverages up there from the outlets downstairs - make sure to hold onto any light weight containers on a windy day. There are two tops and picnic tables along the sides, and distanced place markers on the lawn. No shade of any kind however so it can be pretty scorching on a hot sunny day.

just returned from my visit to the market what a disappointment! It is very small and frankly not worth traveling to a iffy area. I did have an excellent meal at Buffalo and Bergen, had a knife sharpened, and ice cream but beyond that it is very small.

Locals come here for lunch, and the variety is why. Italian, tacos, salads, donuts, ice cream. A large industrial food court in a neighborhood getting gentrified quickly. Out of the way if you are here to see the big DC attractions, but if you want to get out the tourist zone, this place is worth it. Shops and bookstore within a block.

Trendy little marketplace with lots of food offerings from the East to West. There is also a large outdoor seating area which is perfect for dinning in a balmy summer evening. We particularly enjoy the food from a kiosk that specialize in everyday men's British food such as fish & chips (my kids' favorite) and the Tikka Masala. The name escape me now but you can't miss it. It has a standup cardboard ad of the Queen in front.
