Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is far from the most impressive monument in DC, but it's a fine statue and quite appropriate to its subject's relative position in American history. The reason its a solid don't miss is its location, right along the path of most ant DC itinerary.

Iconic imposing figure that sits in front of the incredible Capitol Building. The figure of Grant on his horse looking towards the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial

There are thousands of statues of famous and semi-famous individuals on horses around the world. The Ulysses S Grant Memorial is nothing really any more impressive than most of the others. The one thing that sets it apart is that it's located smack dab in front of the Capitol Building (not sure what the proponents of this memorial did to secure such a prime spot, but there it is).

Thus monument is located in front of the Capitol building snd it brings more questions than answers on why he is located there. In any case, is an interesting spot to visit. He may need to

Located in front of Congress, this wonderfully crafted memorial is a true work of art. I really enjoyed the intricate details that went into this work.

PROS
• Impressive statue of the general and president on his horse
• Great Location exactly at the Reflecting Pool
• Directly in front of the Capitol Building
• Great detail in its depiction of him
• Two more statues - one on each side- showing Civil War battles
• Bas- relief showing more struggles of war
• Symbolic to have the general who led the war effort to preserve the Union at one end of the National Mall and the President who presided over its unification- Lincoln- at the other end

CONS
Not much written printed or engraved explanation of what this is, who it is and what it represents- its significance and its Central location

“I VISITED THIS PLACE”…
… while exploring Capitol Hill. I was thrilled to discover these statues and took many photos, which I hope that you will find “helpful.”

TIP
Of course you should go and see this.

Very well done memorial on Capitol Hill. Not only is the memorial a great tribute in its own right, but allows for some great photos with the Capitol in the background.

I visited the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial twice in August 2021. Since the US Capitol is closed, walking around the Reflecting Pool and seeing the memorials near the US Capitol (Grant Memorial, Garfield Memorial, Peace Monument) are the best we can do right now. Given that Ulysses S. Grant was a Civil War hero and served two terms as president (1869-1877), I think it is an appropriate bookend to the Lincoln Memorial on the other end of the Mall with the Washington Monument in the middle.

A wonderfully fitting memorial for a true American hero, the Grant Memorial sits in a perfect spot in front of the large pool, with the Capitol building on the opposite side - creating some great views.

The memorial itself is very large and imposing, and contains quite a few parts to it. Would 100% recommend checking it and the surrounding area out.
