The Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. The Senate and the House of Representatives have met here for more than two centuries. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored; today, it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people and their government.

U.S. Capitol

There is much to see in the Capitol. We took the guided tour of the U.S. Capitol and I would highly recommend it to all visitors.

We had a great tour by Roberta! She was very knowledgable and since we went early in the morning, we had a relatively small group (about 20 of us). The headsets for use during the tour were extremely clear and easy to use - they didn't get in the way at all. We reserved advanced tickets online. All the tours... More

Make sure before you leave to get on the schedule to get a tour of the Capital Building. If you forget, don't worry! They have Same Day tour tickets as well but the number is limited. The tour shows you a bit of the building including the historical chambers of the two houses. Really a lot of fun and well... More

As soon as you know when you will be in the DC area, contact your representatives for a guided tour! If there are more than one representative, contact all of them! They will probably offer tours at different day/time, which will give you more flexibility on your schedule. The guided tour is also more personal and way small group than... More

We were a group of 8 and visited the US Capitol for the first time (although all of us have been in Washington many times before). Wow, what a great, informative and entertaining tour it was! In fact, we all felt that it was one of our best tours ever. Main reason: our guide Paul Sullivan! Paul made all the... More

We had a tour of the Capitol building and it was amazing. The statues and paintings alone are worth the trip. The history and the beauty of the building is world class. I would highly recommend this tour.

I've got to tell you up front: Capitol tours are a bit of a pain. There are throngs of tourists; you'll have to wait in lines; and you may be rushed around at times. I'd recommend that the best thing you could do is write your member of Congress and indicate that you want a tour. Most congressional offices offer... More

It's one of the most famous buildings in Washington D.C , you can see it from many streets but it's near from the library of congress.

I found the tour of the Capitol very interesting and engaging, whilst still being able to see the main sites. However, I would strongly suggest seeing both houses. As I am an international visitor, it was surprisingly easy to get into both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Yet in the Senate the information booklet given to us was... More
