Overview
More
The Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. The Senate and the House of Representatives have met here for more than two centuries. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored; today, it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people and their government.

We booked a tour with our congressman. We had a scheduled tour and arrival was an easy process. The tour began with a short video in the theatre. We then were assigned a guide and were given headsets to hear the tour guide. This was...More

A terrific tour guide brought the available areas to life with insider stories and explaining all the artwork. Book online first and then just pick your ticket up at the visitors centre. Can't visit all places and couldn't get into the public galleries.

We requested tickets from our Colorado senator a few weeks in advance (find them via google :-)). His office set up a private tour (which was awesome) plus got us passes to sit in on a senate session. During the session we watched the senators...More

Book a tour or just show up at the visitor section. I thought this was going to be boring, but it became my favorite location in DC. Matthew was our tour guide & he challenged us to think & was very knowledgeable. I loved the...More

The Capitol is somewhere that I would recommend everyone visit once. If you are visiting, try and be sure to go when there legislative session is in. If you go when they are on holiday, it can be a bit boring. When the session is...More

My family and I took the guided tour. We got a very nice tour guide, who really knew a lot about the place. Afterwards we went to see the House and the Senate, which I would also highly recommend.

The building is beautiful and awe-inspiring inside and out. The tours have a great setup using headphones, so that many tours can be going on at the same time and you can still hear your tour guide. The tours are informative, but quick. You do...More

The interior of the building is nice, but the tour only took 30 minutes, and we couldn't go on to the senate floor. disappointing

Make sure you make advance arrangements with your representative, if possible. We did not, and were able to get in fairly easily for a tour, but it sounds like you get a lot more if your representative's staff assists you.

If you are a serious student of how the US system of government has operated and continues to do so today this is a great visit. Our tour guide (free of charge) was excellent and to see the inside of the Capitol building was exciting....More

The one through your congressman is given by one of the congressman's staffers and in much smaller groups. We saw much more of the capital and could ask questions. In the one you book online is the public capital tour and... More

I would arrive at 8:00am. Try to get the tour for the Senators and Congressional Gallery also from their office building. It is well worth it. The difference between the public and private tours is the line you stand in... More
