NO Water during my visit and MANY Homeless People Here!
Jan. 2020
I was quite disappointed when I saw that the Fountain did not have water during my visit. There were also many homeless men occupying the benches surrounding this Fountain. I quickly took some pictures and hurriedly left!

Random, especially in winter
Dec. 2018 • Solo
In winter the fountain is drained - so essentially it is a 'nothing special foundation without water'. If you happen to be passing Du Post Circle look up, otherwise you're not missing much at all!

Not a destination, but nice if you are in the area
Apr. 2018 • Solo
DC is full of amazing statues and memorials and the like. If this fountain were in a small town it would be the focal point. In DC it is the decoration in the center of a very nice green space tucked into an urban area. Sure it's nice, but it isn't something that I recommend you seek out. Three stars for being average.

Huge Fountain
May 2018 • Couples
My wife and I walked past this enormous fountain in the middle of Dupont Circle. It was extremely ornate and was a nice monument. This area makes a nice place to visit as it is quieter than other areas of Washington and has some great restaurants.

Nice structure in the circle
Feb. 2018 • Solo
It is one of many fountain in D.C. that is operating and working during summer time. A nice structure in the middle of the circle. The fountain's formal name is the Rear Admiral Samuel Francis DuPont Memorial Fountain has 3 carved with allegorical sculptures round the base. According to the information, it is one of the 18 fountains registered as historic places in the country. During summer, visitors can come and enjoy the fountain and watch chess games.

Greenery

Dupont Circle is not particularly quiet with all the traffic around, but it’s pretty. It’s a green oasis. I was there this morning and took some photos and noticed that lots were in the benches reading the paper or a book. It was serene with the buzz of traffic.

Center of the Circle
Mar. 2017
It's the fountain in the center of the circle with a small park and benches all around. Not the best fountain in DC, but you will see it as you are sure to come to this essential neighborhood.

Attractive
Nov. 2016 • Solo
The fountain is attractive but the scene around it is the very interesting. People from all walks of life sit on the fountain’s edge. Some people just sit and think while others eat their lunch.

SEA, WIND, STARS AND HIGH HEELS TOO!
Sep. 2016 • Solo
Like Rick’s in Casablanca, sooner or later everyone comes to Dupont Circle near the top of the downtown district. Not all just to spin around the junction of five major avenues. By taxi, car, limo or rising up the escalators from the Red Line station, visitors, residents and the eager curious come for the entertainment, architecture and shopping or maybe just to the annual madcap high heel race or in answer to invitations from Embassy Row. Glimpsed in House of Cards and Captain America, noted in all guide books, the area is a mix of history, glitz, architectural treasures and gentrification all recalling the changing tastes and tides of DC culture.

However, the little park in the middle deserves attention as well. It’s a Civil War monument on the National Register. Surrounded by shade trees and a ring of benches (installed 1964) some with chess tables, a white marble fountain rises in the middle. Designed by Henry Bacon and Daniel Chester French, creators of the Lincoln Memorial, the three classical figures represent the Sea, Wind and Stars. In 1921 it replaced the commemorative statue of Samuel Francis Du Pont, a distinguished Civil War Rear Admiral and member of one of America’s legendary families. The inscription to him remains. After it was erected in 1884, structural problems developed (it listed), and the family removed it to Wilmington, DE, his home town. Today the park offers leafy respite from the surrounding traffic whirl. Students, street people, mothers with strollers and purpose-driven pedestrians pass through, taking short cuts, sit reading, sleeping, playing chess or just hanging out. Stop a moment yourself and consider the stars.
