For exhibits of the moment (Hollywood and pop stars - both of the entertainment and the political world) as well as historical import (and amazing hall of the Presidents), this portion of the Smithsonian should not be missed. The center courtyard, with its unique and...More

If you love art, this place will satisfy the cravings. The American Presidents portrait gallery was beautiful. Loved the George Bush and Bill Clinton works. Nice place to spend a quiet afternoon.

I only had a few hours between meetings in DC, and thought the National Portrait Gallery might be a museum that was manageable in a short time. The museum is part of the Smithsonian so there is no official fee, just a donation box at...More

You will love the photos in the National Portrait Gallery. You will see pictures of famous people from politics, sports and movies. Very interesting. Don't miss it!

There are many striking and interesting portraits here and many are brought to life by being in context groupings. Thoughtfully and expertly put together.

We had a private tour here that lasted about 2 hours and I think I would have spent the whole day here. Absolutely amazing work in all different capacities. I enjoyed the portraits of the presidents, but also the other works.

We only visited because this open a bit later than other museums & galleries but glad that we did. Art is very subjective so everyone has to decide for themselves what they think. I came away feeling that while there was nothing particularly show-stopping there...More

I've been to DC many times but always skipped this museum because I thought it would be full of stodgy art. It was fabulous. They have a fun exhibit right now called Eye Pop that features photos of celebrities. I also loved their modern art...More

The portrait gallery was excellent for a few hours on a touristy day in Washington DC. A few of us attended and walked around and enjoyed the traveling exhibit of modern day entertainers. Would highly recommend.

No, you can simply walk in. If you visit during the week it is fairly quiet and even on weekends, it doesn't feel that busy (it is so vast that you don't notice the crowds!). There is no charge, unless there is a specific... More
