I attended a corporate event and thought that I would take a quick skirt around the ground floor on my way out. After 75 minutes, I realized that I had only covered a third of the displayed content. The editorials next to each portrait provide...More

Two art museums in one. On this trip I wanted to see the founding father portraits. It's amazing to walk up and get so close to these wonderful images of our history. The gallery website has recommendations if you only have 1/2 an hour or...More

The National Gallery of Art is not your typical art museum. They have all of the presidential portraits you have ever seen. You have to go see the mold of Abraham Lincoln's hands the broom stick in the sculpture is the actual broom stick president...More

This is more than just a portrait gallery. There is so much history put forth that both times I have visited, I have spent the entire day going through theses galleries!

So many museums in Washington are huge and crowded, but not this gem. When I visited recently I viewed the JFK's life in photos and the the Marlene Deitrick exhibit. Both excellent. I plan to return often to see other exhibits.

A must see. The Presidential Portraits are exquisite and there are a few other pieces worth seeing, namely the Yellowstone and Grand Canyon paintings and Civil War pieces.

Large collection. Plan on spending a few hours. Suggest taking public transport because, in general, DC is getting harder and more expensive to find a place to park. All of the famous and not so famous Americans you learned about in school.

At the National Portrait Gallery you show up at the appointed time for walkin tours. Meet behind the information desk on the F Street side of the building. Enjoy.
