You can't go to DC without visiting this area of the city, as it holds some of the best memorials the city has to offer - the Vietnam war memorial, Korean war memorial, Lincoln memorial, World War II memorial, etc. It's basically just a long area of land, with water features, parks/grass, cycle paths, memorials, and space to walk, exercise... We set off walking to take in all the sights on foot, starting at the Capitol building, walked through the National Mall which is a LOT bigger than it looks, took in a few of the Museums along the way eventually ending up at the Lincoln Memorial. In total that day we walked 22 miles!! Would love to re visit... More

Please refer to my previous post about the museum... I have discussed my nearly 2 hour visit...I could have easily spent 8 hours there...so much to see and experience!

Have to walk it so that you can take it in from both ends. This is our nation's capitol - everyone should feel what it means to walk there.

Lots to see lots of walking. Great area for sight seeing. I visited this on a floating holiday therefore it was not busy. Two days later, no parking around. Heavy crowds. Just be prepared and have fun

The mall is pretty much the best place to spend a day if you want to learn things. The museums, the memorials, the gardens, etc..

I make time to walk the mall regularly. You need to be a good walker to get from one end to the other and back again but I've done it numerous times. At one end are all the monuments: Lincoln, Viet Nam war, Martin Luther King, WWII, Korea and many more. At the other end are all the Smithsonian Museum... More

Every U.S. citizen should come and visit the seat of our national culture at least once. Many of the most iconic pieces of our past are clustered together and free for everyone's viewing. Being here is a unique experience.

We spent a lot of time walking around here and visiting the various memorials. Plenty of places to get drinks and snacks. A good place visit at night as well.
