Came here while having a cultural day. There was lots to see and many had African influences. This is a really nice building and a nice feeling.

We spent a little over 2 hours here. It was worth the excursion and we enjoyed it, but if you really want to immerse yourself in African art I would go with the Met in NYC. This place has some good works thoughtfully displayed, but...More

What an amazing museum. The art work and the history alone was worth the time we spent here. Each section housed different customs and artifacts from different regions. The gift shop had some very wonderful things to purchase. You will need to spend an hour...More

I alway pass this museum and decided to finally visit. Its much smaller than the other museums and has a cool building all below ground. Its would not be my first stop but if you have done the other museums give this a try. It...More

I liked some of the older art gathered from Africa but the newer stuff and the weird videos were a bit much. The place is decent sized but the kids were not that interested.

There is almost nothing on display in this museum. There are a few pieces from here and there, presented with little or no context. The pieces on display are in no way exceptional or even particularly good. I've seen vastly better collections in the flea...More

You start at the top floor, and gradually go down to see additional exhibits. The art pieces which include all media are fabulous. Usually museum stores are near the exit so patrons won't miss it but their museum store in on the second floor, you...More

Beautiful garden outside the entrance. The volunteers are passionate and informed. We got a short group tour and the volunteer had us focus on a couple pieces rather than rush through the whole museum. The layout is airy and spacious; recommend.

The museum is on the National Mall. There are many hotels in Northwest DC that aren't terribly far from the Mall. I suggest you search for hotels on this site and locate them on the map in relation to the National Mall. You... More
