Yayoi Kusama - worth the wait - but be prepared to wait some more

We were at the Hirshhorn to visit the Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrors Exhibit, but found the rest of the Museum to well worth the time to visit. I am a particular fan of Edward Hopper and was delighted to his "11AM" painting there. There are also Alexander Calder mobiles on exhibit as well. Only takes a few hours of time... More

We scored tickets from friends to visit the infinity mirrors exhibit at 12:15pm on a weekday and were pleasantly surprised that the wait outside the museum was not too long. We went inside and saw the beautiful living orchid exhibit on the wall, but headed directly upstairs to the 2nd floor for the Yayoi Kusama exhibit. When we turned the... More

This review is based purely on the Yayoi Kusama exhibit at the Hirshhorn. I went on a Sunday so the rest of the museum was closed off aside from the Kusama rooms. I did go into the sculpture garden outside (it was great, go!) and looked at the orchid display in the lobby (also really good). The Yayoi Kusama exhibit... More

It is always refreshing to walk through the sculpture gardens and to see the special exhibitions at the Hirshorn. I would characterize most of the exhibits as fun. Not too highbrow. It's a great place to take young folks to see and discuss art

This has got to be one of the funkiest museums I've had the pleasure of seeing. A contemporary circular museum houses several floors of modern art installments of all mediums (painting, film, 3D sculpture, performance art etc) with additional sculpture curated in the outdoor gardens. The memorable Ragnar Kjartansson exhibit displayed room upon room is his works, spanning his career.... More

The Hirshhorn is beautiful space on the National Mall that has a beautiful sculpture garden and a unique architectural design. But the heart of the Hirshhorn is the ever changing fantastic exhibits. Check the calendar and fight out what amazing show is coming because sometimes you will need to book in advance. While you can always see the permanent collection... More

We were here for the extraordinary "infinity Mirrors" temporary exhibit by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. We remember very well being here for the Ai Wei Wei special exhibit. When planning a trip to the Mall, check on line for the Hirshhorn's programs and unusual temporary exhibits. This is a small but intellectually challenging museum.

No matter what city I travel to, I always check out the local art museums. I’m more of a fan of traditional (paintings, sculptures, drawings) than contemporary, but I have come to enjoy modern and contemporary art more and more in the last few years. The Hirshhorn Museum is not nearly as big as the National Gallery and to really... More

If you like orchids, then you should not miss the live orchid exhibit going on until mid-May 2017. They showcase different species and there is a volunteer that will assist you if you want to know the name of a particular orchid on display. Entrance is free.

While I couldn't see the infinity mirror exhibit that I really wanted to see, I still got to see some amazing artwork.
