Just seeing the inside of the building was worth the visit, but the displays were also worthwhile. We got a tour from our congressman's office and I think that made it MUCH more interesting than walking in on our own.

Loved this place - so unique and interesting. The youngsters on our tour were not as enthusiastic as I, but I felt it was a great learning experience for all. Tours are free, but you must book ahead of time as they fill quickly. Knowledgeable...More

This is easily the most beautiful building in DC. Sign up for the tour, the docents will point out all of the interesting symbolism as well as answer any questions regarding the building, exhibits, or the collection. Of all the sights we saw on this...More

I thought it was the most stunning of the buildings with its entrance carvings and the paintings on the ceilings. They had Jefferson's library inside then and a display of the most influential American books. Liked that I had read most of them.

Just being in this amazing building was high spot for me. So very beautiful you could spend a good hour just wandering around looking at every detail.

We had a wonderful tour set up by our congressman. I can't compare it to a "regular" tour but we had a very knowledgeable tour guide and enjoyed our time immensely!

I agree, 90 minutes to 2 hours is a good time frame to put aside, that would give you enough time to either tour on your own or take a guided tour, plus have time to look around on your own if you do decide to do the tour... More
