It was a lot of fun and we found some good finds! Don’t get me wrong it was hot and it took a lot of work but we thought it was worth it! The gentleman was very helpful and educated us on how to dig and even cleaned up/polished some of our better finds. A definite recommend!

Great experience! It a ways into the middle of nowhere, but worth it. There were plenty of people there when we arrived but we didn’t need to wait long to be helped and get started in the quarry. Great instruction on what types of species you will find and help cleaning them up. Kyle was a great help and very friendly face when we got there and when we left.

We were visiting some of the national parks in Utah on a family vacation and had searched for fossil digs before we left, as one of our kids is very into rocks, fossils, and gems. We were excited to find U-Dig because trilobites are his favorite type of fossil! So we definitely planned to go here, even though it was 3 hours away from where we were staying. It was certainly worth the trip! Because it was a 6 hr. round trip for us, we only did the 2-hr. dig, but it was enough time. Every member of the family found plenty of trilobites, and we ended up shipping a box home, as it wouldn't fit in our luggage. Jared and Cole were so nice, enthusiastic, and very helpful. We even enjoyed the drive to the quarry on the dirt/gravel road, bringing back memories for me of my childhood days going to and from my dad's farm on dirt roads, where I learned how to drive. If we visit that area of Utah again, we will make sure to return to U-Dig! It is a great activity for family members of all ages!

Understand that you will be breaking rocks in the hot sun. But the site and the operation guarantees that you will come away with very nice fossils. The family-run business is staffed on site by several very polite and helpful young men.

I first found out about U-Dig Fossils through a video I saw on YouTube. It just looked like a fantastic adventure and I wasn't wrong!

I drove to the site from Ely, Nevada. After about 2 hours of driving, I finally got to the turnoff telling me that I "only" had 20 miles to go. The road is typical desert, washboarded in many places, dirt road and it seemed to go on forever, but that is a big part of the experience. I imagined that I was traveling back in time. Sure took a bit of time to cover the 20 miles! (Not a bad thing)

After a bumpy 20 miles, I arrived in the Cambrian era and saw...lots and LOTS of shale!

Before I hit the rock pile, I met Cole, one of workers there. Friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable, Cole got me started on my rock splitting experience by briefing me on the different trilobites (and other fossils) that might be found in the quarry. After that, he came to the rock pile with me and showed me how to split the rock and gave pointers on what to look for.

Bottom line, the customer service, which can be a rare commodity these days, was excellent and a very important part of my experience with U-Dig.

I went for the 4 hour block of time. The first 3 hours were fine, but for this 65 year old who needs to work out more, the fourth hour felt more like being a member of a chain gang. 4 hours should not be a problem for most, but I would think most buy the 2 hour block. Having said that, if I go back (and I tend towards WHEN I go back), I will still go for the 4 hour block.

I found a superb specimen in the first 5 MINUTES of splitting rock! There were dry spells, but I came away with 10 specimens and am very happy with my take.

I intend on sending the vast majority of the fossils to my granddaughters in Denmark and my nephew in New York. I had a question about international shipping and sent an email to Carrie Crapo, one of the owners. She answered me quickly and could not have been nicer and more helpful.

So, bottom line, I cannot recommend U-Dig Fossils highly enough! Beautiful Utah, not a cloud in the sky, a real adventure to get there, great customer service, a blast when you find the trilobites and other fossils. What's not to like?

Go for it!

We had so much fun digging for Trilobites! My husband and I paid for a 2-hour block which was ample time to dig up 2 buckets worth of excellent trilobites. The staff was helpful in explaining what to do beforehand. You're provided with a hammer and a bucket. You can also bring your own tools. Crowbars handy to dig out the banks. Afterwards, we ate our lunch on a bench at the site. Because we had so many fossils, we mailed them home in Postal Service Priority mail boxes (up to 70 pounds per box). We averaged 20 to 30 pounds for each box. Got tape and bubble wrap at Dollar General. Can't wait to share with our grandsons and we have several large specimens to display in our home.

finding some trilobites!!! Yayyyyy! last year we found nothing and no one to help. this year we found some great ones and Jerrod was a great help. thanks Jerrod. as for making the site photos better and a better attraction, why not have a special day out there, announce it ahead of time! balloons with trilobite pics hanging from them or drawn on them, lots of fun trilobite photos , decorate the shack and tractors. make some enlarged photos of trilobites, staple them together for puppets. do the same only make trilobite paper dolls. i will take one of those. lol make the stumps look like giant trilobites.make the place look happy, happy, happy! anything you can think of to make the photo shoot that day super attractive. how about watermelons and mariachi dancers? and music!!! anything to liven up the place. then take tons of photos to post. trip advisors ad will surpass anything you can imagine and attract tons of visitors.

Mitch and Brock where knowledgeable and very nice. We had a 4 hour block of time and found lots of fun things. Lots of trilobites and a fern fossil! We did bring a lunch and drinks and took a break in the middle. Mitch and Brock helped us understand which fossils were which and even cut one of our fossils so that it would stand on its own! Definitely worth the trip!
