Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My better half and I stayed in the Blue Heron Hideaway at French Broad River Farms over the Christmas Holiday and it was simply AMAZING! The Farlows and their entire team went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed including restaurant recommendations, nearby hiking, scenic drives and loads more. They were excellent at communicating every detail and we were treated like royalty. We would highly recommend staying with them and have already raved to friends and family. We will definitely be back and can't wait to experience their glorious property in the warmer months. You are guaranteed to have the best and most relaxing time in their more than hospitable hands!

We enjoyed the dog park with our 1 year old pup while on vacation. There is no entrance fee and the dog park is and open play area with some benches for sitting on. They have a smaller play area for small dogs. We visited on a Saturday and our pup had about 25 other dogs to play with - it was great for letting her get some energy out while off leash!

I rafted the French Broad River on 07/25/14 with a girlfriend. We were both novices; neither of us had ever been white-water rafting before. It's a beautiful and scenic river with class I, II, and several class III rapids. It was a great river to get started with, and now I'm ready to up it a notch! The folks at NOC were friendly and experienced. The half-day trip is 5 miles. The actual time on the river was probably 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Time includes a short training at HOC and travel to the drop-off and from the pick up in a bus. There is a changing area with a couple of showers for afterwards. There is also the option to purchase photos. I purchased just the one which I have uploaded here. It was great fun!

This park sits right on the French Broad River and the locals use it for biking, hiking and river surfing. It appears to be a dog park also but it is so peaceful even though it sits off a main road in town. Worth a visit

Having paddled on many rivers and lakes throughout the world, I highly recommend an outing on the French Broad River in North Carolina. There are various sections, some with a smooth steady flow and others with whitewater. Pick the sections that match your ability. There are many outfitters along the river offering equipment and also guided trips. Rafting is also an option. Geologically, this is one of the world's oldest rivers. It flows north, next to the national forest. There is easy access from Asheville.

My husband, son and I booked a kayaking excursion on the French Broad River through the activity center while visiting the Biltmore Mansion in Ashville. This was so much fun! The excursion takes approximately 11/2 to 2 hours down the gently flowing river through the forest. This is a fairly easy kayaking excursion, very relaxing and the scenery is breathtaking. I would definitely recommend this if you are visiting Ashville!

It's a beautiful river especially north of Asheville. The rafting is highly dependent on river levels so check before you go. Check in at one of the outfitters in Hot Springs and have a blast!

My husband and I have been whitewater rafting many times, including several times in the beautiful North Carolina mountains, and have never been disappointed until last weekend. We made the mistake of going with a small, local rafting company on a "float" trip down the French Broad on a 2 person duck. While I take full responsibility for not doing my research, I want to share some lessons learned. If the rafting company you are considering offers float trips on the French Broad with a two person duck and puts two adults in it (or a large man in a one person duck), be prepared to spend all of your time getting unstuck on rocks and flipping over (or at least tipping over) for the entire 2.5 to 3 hours trip. You should also be prepared to not have a guide, not have a place to stop that isn't private property and not see anyone from the rafting company for the entire trip. Be aware there are professional rafting companies in the wonderful mountains of North Carolina and then there are hobby rafting companies...this time we unfortunately chose the hobby one and had a terrifying ride for 3 hours. So, definitely do your research, ask alot of questions (absolutely demand a guide) and, if something doesn't seem right, don't go. We received no instructions at all and, since we were the first to be put in the duck, we had no idea the company was leaving us to fend for ourselves. My husband and I are bruised, scraped and have a much better appreciation for what it takes to run a professional rafting company. I highly recommend whitewater rafting but be sure the company knows what they are doing. I know times are tough and we want folks to enjoy the river, but not at the expense of someone getting hurt.

Is the French Broad river dirty? It looks so muddy & brown in all the pictures.
