A Really Old Church & the current building dates back to 1834 and was the original Cathedral till the Bishops seat moved & the Cathedral Basilica of St Louis took precedent. Can't be compared but in it's own right is just as beautiful and humbling and right on the edge of the JNEM Park with the Arch looming over the... More

This is a lovely church, right next to the Gateway Arch - the oldest Catholic cathedral west of the Mississippi. Recently restored to more closely resemble its appearance in 1834 when it was build, this church is a true find. It is one of the most beautiful in the city, site of countless weddings - people come from all around... More

Wandering downtown St. Louis and ran across this old church the other day. I believe this is the oldest building in St. Louis and you pass right by it on the way to the Arch. The church doesn't look like much from the outside, but is quite beautiful on the inside. There is no entrance fee.

Beautiful Catholic church with incredible mosaic collection with over 7000 colors used. A wonderful place to catch your breath and reconnect spiritually.

From the outside, this church is a bit unassuming, particularly since it is adjacent to the Gateway Arch site. However, it is magnificent inside. It reminds me of some of the churches I have visited in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. However, this Basilica is obviously more modern with contemporary appointments. When there are no services, it is a great... More

Oldest building in St. Louis. Is Greek Revival Architecture. Awe and reverence-inspiring church. Conveniently happened to be walking back and there was not service going on. The building was empty, but open for visitors.

This is really a neat place to visit. We were fortunate to have one of church personal tell about the cathedral. Many of the statues were made of zinc and then covered with plaster. The painting behind the altar has a great story. The basilica was refurbished a few years back to as near as original as possible. Whether you... More

We drove past the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis almost daily during our visit to the city. I always mentioned to Lisa that we should stop and shoot some photos of the exterior. It was an amazing looking building. The one time we tried to stop and get some photos was on a school day, during drop-offs. Sooooooo, no photos... More

This is an amazing place. The stained glass window is gorgeous, and the mosaics inspire adoration. We went to my daughter's confirmation there. The only thing that jarred slightly was the organ music. Don't know if someone was in training or what, but their playing left a lot to be desired. But the Basilica itself overcame any disgruntlement. What an... More

Just such an incredible experience from the minute you walk in. We went for 10 AM Sunday Mass. Upon entering the through huge doors you are bathed in the choir's angelic voices which create such an amazing atmosphere as your eyes adjust to the dazzling display of intricate mosaics. The mystifying impact as you realize someones moment of the divine... More
