The drive up from Ketchum to Stanley is amazing. Did it on a late May sunny day and there was still loads of snow on the road edges. Views at almost every turn and the Sawtooth mountains are SO aptly named. Combine it with the scenic route down to Boise as a two day route through Idaho instead of the... More

We visited the Sawtooth Scenic Byway in July 2016, driving from Sun Valley to Stanley and back. This is a wonderful drive, with outstanding mountain views (with some snow on the peaks left even in July!), spectacular turquoise lake, great walks, and other attractions. This was the highlight of our trip to Sun Valley/Ketchum. Bring a jacket even in summer,... More

I did the drive last fall and had a great time. It is windy and there are plenty of interesting rock formations. The road was not busy with traffic by any means. We ended up driving into the night which was a bit of a risk because there were elk everywhere! Maybe the problem is worse in the fall, but... More

We enjoyed a nice drive on the Sawtooth Scenic Byway. We drove through the picturesque towns of Hailey, Ketchum and Sun Valley. The area has scenic mountain vistas. It also has claim as the 100th National Forest scenic byway in the country.e route then rolls north through fertile agricultural land to the resort towns of Hailey, Ketchum, and Sun Valley.

We took this byway from Stanley to Boise via highway 21. Based on the map we thought there would be a little switch backing and then be relatively mild curves. Wow were we surprised! Most of our trip was at 25-35 mph with steep turns up and down the mountain. There are no points of interest for most of the... More

If you start in Challis then ride to Stanley and then over to Lowman, wow what a ride. The views just keep on coming. There's plenty of places to stop, fish, or go for a walk. It's definitely worth the drive or ride. We did it on motorcycles and what a great ride.

It is a Beautiful drive. Picturesque and calming. Allow time to stop and take in the scenery not just drive through. This land is untouched and just the way God created it.

My husband and I drove on the Sawtooth Scenic Byway in August of 2009 to get to Stanley, Idaho for a few days of sightseeing. We drove from Shoshone to Stanley, ID stopping at many of the sites on the way. The drive is absolutely gorgeous with many opportunities to stop and admire the scenery and take photographs. We stopped... More
