Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I can’t believe people think the reservation system is good. It is the worst thing EVER!!
The park belongs to all people in the United States and we can’t even get in. I live an hour away and only was able to get into the park twice in July. When we did arrive at our assigned time, we had to wait over 30 minutes in line to get in. So, there were close to 70 cars waiting with their engines running polluting our air. I’m sorry, but timed entry is HORRIBLE. Why not have all entry stations open including the automated one. An attendant could be stationed there to give out the pass for the Bear lake area. OR… have the park fully open to all United States citizens. I feel sorry for those who come from far away to experience our beauty here in CO and can’t get in to the park. The $2.00 fee we have to pay doesn’t even go to the park. I can’t believe people think that this is good?

I see many disappointed with Rocky Mountain National Park in the reviews. Yes, this year of Covid, we too learned the first day that reservations were required to enter the park but we worked around that. If you get to the gate before 7 am, it is not manned and you can enter. We go early to parks anyway to avoid crowds; this was no exception. Once in, we totally enjoyed exploring this national park. We did some short hikes to lakes, waterfalls, a historical site and traveled most of Trail Ridge Road. We saw so many elk and moose every day we went in. Colorado is a treasure. We've been in quite a few states and Colorado is definitely one of our favorites.

This is a small lake inside the park. It's not a lake you have to hike to, so anyone can have the opportunity to see one of the most beautiful sunrises you'll ever see. There's a parking lot and it's a very, very short walk to the lake We had been told by a local this was a must. OMG were they right. You can't believe the colors you will see. It's worth every second you have to get up before dawn to get there.

We had a great time in RMNP. Bear Lake parking lot was full, so we enjoyed Sprague Lake for a while and made a couple other stops before attempting to return to Bear Lake around 3pm. There were plenty of spaces available by then. The trails were still snowed over, but not icy.

We drove here from Arkansas only to learn that we need a reservation to enter the park. That is fine if we did not learn it before. However, as we were old by a guy at the gate and some signs placed there that a reservation is needed to enter between 9am-3pm, we came back at 3 pm to be allowed to buy a pass but not to enter Bear Lake area. Then we were told to make a reservation again to visit Bear Lake area. This is very disappointing.

The day we visited we traveled on most of the roads and areas on the east side of the park. We encountered all kinds of weather; blue sky to blizzard. All on the same day. We saw big horn sheep and a herd of Elk. The views were stunning. The roads can be a little challenging and sometimes roads and trails are closed for various reasons. We had to purchase a timed admission pass to go to the park. The park is only allowing a certain number of visitors. I am glad that we purchased ours since they were sold out by the time we arrived. This is a wonderful park and I highly recommend it for visitors to the area for the views and seeing all the animals.

Loved every inch of this National Park that we were able to see ~ with that being said we visited this park during the middle of April and 3/4 of the 'Trail Ridge Road' which bring you from the east entrance (Estes Park) to the south entrance and past the Grand Lake.
We were hoping that this section of the road would have been passable by the time we arrived but the Snow had other plans! We were able to go south from the Estes entrance and visit Bear Lake. We were able to park here and hike ON the lake ~ the trail was too covered in snow to hike it and the lake was completely hardened ~ park ranger told us where and how to hike on the lake !
It definitely made our visit a lot quicker that we wanted it ~ but the park was so beautiful that it left us wanting more ~ hoping we can do it again during the summer months!

Came out of state and drove all the the way to the Rocky Mountain park entrance to find out you need to reserve time slots to enter the park. I am a veteran and they would not allow us to enter and stated that the park was booked for the whole weekend. We traveled here mainly to visit the Rocky Mountains but we were very disappointed to learn they did not prioritize veterans. The park is HUGE so surely there wouldn’t been plenty of room.

We went hiking in the Rockys at the end of June, 2020. Not as many people on the trails as in the past. About half the people were wearing masks and most people went to opposite sides of the trail when passing. I think the timed entry system has helped keep the crowds down. We never had problems finding parking at any of the trail heads and we usually didn't start hiking until mid-morning. As usual, the volunteers at the trail heads were extremely helpful. I always enjoy talking with them.

The Rocky Mountain national Park is so beautiful majestic and close to the town of Estes Park Colorado we stayed along the river near Estes Park so we were close to the entrance and each night we would go a few miles down the road to view wildlife in the park we saw plenty of moose, elk, coyotes, big horn sheep and deer every day or evening. The park is well-maintained and taking the road through to Grand Lake Colorado was so incredible to drive above the tree line across. It takes a couple hrs if you stop here and there at overlooks. There is a large visitor center at the top about halfway which has a café and a large store the views are incredible there too with the grand snowcapped mountains. The air is thinner but if you spend a few days in Estes Park before heading into the higher elevation you should be OK. Drink plenty of water take your time. The small town of grand Lake is very cute and welcoming with plenty of restaurants and make sure you visit the Adams Falls which is a short hike at the edge of town. Another side note we saw Moose at Sprague Lake inside the park near the Bear Lake area and also by the entrance the fall River Road and by grand Lake.

if we are limited on time, just about 5 hours, what would recommend definitly seeing, we really like water falls.

Greetings Crysthgr, I am going to assume you are going to enter the park from the east and exit on the west. The park is very, very crowded Friday, Saturday and Sunday and parking is a major pain. So here is a Monday through Thursday idea. You can get to 4 waterfalls with the following strategy. You must get into the park by 7:00 AM. This will get you a parking space at Glacier Gorge parking. There is a short Hike up to Alberta Falls that will take you about 1 to 1.5 hours round trip. From Alberta Falls you will drive to the Alluvial Fan in Endo Valley. There is a waterfall at the mouth of Roaring Valley where the Roaring River comes out above the fan. Next you drive up Old Fall River Road (dirt, one way up - once you start you must go to the top) to Chasm Falls (1.5 miles with a 200 foot walk to the falls). Then you drive to the West Side and leave the park through the Kawuneeche entrance. Drive to Grand Lake and take the road to the east end of the lake. There is a very short trail to Adams Falls (not the best falls of the four). This itinerary should use up all 5 hours. If you are entering and leaving from the east side, then drive up Old Fall River Road, skip the west side and come back down the paved road to Estes Park. That will get you three falls. Let me know if you have any additional questions. I work in the park at the Moraine Park Discovery Center. Have a good one. Cheers, Rich
