Anything in the Santa Cruz area that is outdoors is going to be really nice, but for something a bit different and interesting, go check out the Monarch preserve. They are there from around October to March, which is off season for the area so it's not as crowded. If you want to hang around the park for awhile, pay... More

We where there when the butterflies were starting to bunch up for the winter. It was really neat to see them hanging in the trees overhead. It would be best if you had binoculars, but you can see them without. I learned that this group of monarchs migrate from Santa Cruz north into Nevada and back.

Decent size butterfly grove, but pretty crowded with people. We talked to one of the volunteers there on Sunday, and he was very enthusiastic and knowledgable about the monarchs. Much better than Pacific Grove.

AT THE TIME, there were a couple of monarchs. Hint: drive in and park, don't park at the 15 min or the side parking, unless you want to walk. it's not too much of a walk, but there is closer parking. There's a trail you follow that leads you to the viewing station, its relaxing, but when I went it... More

This was a great thing to check out, if the monarchs are there. Even if the monarchs aren't there, the adjacent beach is really nice to walk around on. On the day I went last fall, the boardwalk to the butterflies was a little crowded, but with the exception of one rowdy group, everyone was respectful and quiet. There are... More

Great place to learn about butterflies and have a magical stroll through the eucalyptus grove. Great educational trip or just for fun. A nice beach and walk along the coast right next door. Make sure to check to see when butterflies are usually there.

We walked behind the Butterfly Inn to a very unassuming FREE place and there they were!! The butterflies were packed on the trees, flying in the skies, and the males attempting to pull the females into the trees. Am amazing experience and the guides were extremely knowledgable!! I'm a retired teacher and I learned lots!! A regret was that my... More

The Monarch butterfly reserve at Natural Bridges State Park is peaceful, beautiful place where the Monarchs make their annual migration for the Fall-Winter home. Spend a sunny afternoon their and you will see these beauties in abundance. Nice giftshop with info on the preserve and Monarchs

Not a big fan of butterflies, but the wife wanted us to go and check out. It was a nice stroll and we did see quite a few of the Monarch butterflies. Most of the butterflies were higher in the trees and you had to search to see them. If you have the time and inclination go do this. It's... More
