For the money I paid I was expecting the Coast Starlight to be the most fantastic trip of all that Amtrak has to offer. Not so, there was NO PARLOUR CAR WITH THE EXTRA MEALS! Most of the scenery was not that great except for...More

No complaints from me, I really enjoyed this trip. 22 hours on a train went really fast. The seats were really comfy & at night I managed to get a bit of sleep. Loved sitting in the observation car, the scenery was stunning. Food was...More

There is a lot of good news. The crew, without exception, were among the nicest people we've met. The checked luggage was handled more efficiently than any airline I've flown. There were some great views. We had a bedroom and slept very well. The train...More

My trip was from Seattle to San Francisco. Also, this was my first long trip on a train. Overall I'd say it was an average experience. Accommodations: I got a sleeper car roomette. This is a closet sized room that has two seats facing each...More

This was a great experience despite the fact that I was suffering from a cold. The economy chairs are very comfortable even to sleep in (it helps if you are short like me and the seat next to you is free) and very well cared...More

While my wife loves to take the train, this was my first trip on Amtrak. While the cars are getting a bit worn and dated overall it was a nice trip. We had a sleeper roomette and it was a bit small, I would book...More

So disappointed with this trip. We got on at Portland to go to LA, we barely saw the attendant the whole trip except to make up the beds, the staff in the dining car were inept and rude, the parlor car barman looked permanently peed...More

Only if you reserve and purchase multi-city tickets, or purchase separate tickets. It does add cost to the fare. A normal ticket is just between two cities/stops, not a hop on hop off train ride.
