Scenic Journey!!

We began this journey in LA and ended in Seattle. Decided to take the train for something different rather than fly. For the most part, this trip was great, beautiful coastal scenery (going north, the ocean views kicked in approx 3-4 hrs in) & waking up to gorgeous mountain views on day 2. The service was pretty much faultless, the... More

My husband and I decided to try Amtrak to SLO instead of driving. We went business class going to SLO and we had a roomette on the way back. Business class was great, with large seats and a footrest that goes all the way up so you can really relax. The business class car is in between the dining car... More

A neighbor just asked for a recommendation for how best to travel to San Francisco from LA. I said that I'd take Amtrak's Coast Starlight train. A reserved Coach seat is $64. Business Class upgrade for an additional $13 will get you more room, WiFi and other amenities. Starting from historic LA Union Station at 10:10am daily, the gorgeous ride... More

My travel started from Los Angeles and I got off at Oakland, CA. Although the journey is a bit longer than the usual flight, but one of the most scenic journey I would say! There are very rare instances when you have clear blue ocean on one side and green lush mountains on the other. It almost felt that the... More

Took it from Martinez Ca to Seattle Wa... Had a sleeper car which was great to do. Nothing fancy, closet size, but who cares it was an Adventure! Worth doing at least once in your life... Rockin on down the line. Food Ok, not great, Service was wonderful and people from all over just kicking back and enjoying the ride... More

Taking this train was a dream of mine come true. Such a wonderful, relaxing experience. We booked a roomette in the sleeper car to have privacy and meals included. It was well worth the additional price, just for our awesome Sleeper Car Addendant who was comical and took such good care of us. She took our picture, made sure we... More

Had to travel from Klamath Falls to Portland last week. Road conditions were awful and taking the new Pen Air flights for this trip was cost prohibitive (not to mention weather affected). A guy named "Roman" was the steward (?) in our car going north and, with his top notch service and wit, he made the trip even more fun... More

As part of a cross country round trip between Ohio and California, after arriving in Portland OR on the Empire Builder from Chicago, we caught the Coast Starlight south from Portland to Sacramento, CA. Then a week later we caught the Coast Starlight again from Sacramento to Los Angeles before heading east on the Southwest Chief back to Chicago. For... More

Due to a medical issue while in Florida I was advised not to fly back to Vancouver, B.C. Booked Amtrak and caught a ride to Texas to catch my train from Fort Worth, Texas to Los Angeles and L.A. to Seattle/Bellingham. Booked a roomette and it was definitely worth the extra money. The roomette is compact but works great for... More

Train from Tacoma to Portland on the Amtrak Coast Starlight #11. Fun way to trek to Portland for the new year. Great ride along the Puget sound including going under the narrows bridge. We had lunch and wine in the dining car. Train was very comfortable and nice staff.
