My wife and I took the CS from LA to Seattle as a part of our 30th anniversary. Overall, we enjoyed travelling by train. (This was our first long train trip.) We had a roomette, and really enjoyed having that. It is nice to be...More

Saw a lot of poor reviews for this trip so was feeling a little discouraged, however I had a fantastic time! The train was cool and quiet, the staff were very polite (Shoutout to "my friend Flavio in the Dining Car!") and the service remained...More

Train was delayed over 3 hours making it a 1am board at Emeryville- apparently this is a common occurrence according to rail staff!! Constant announcements over PA from a staff member “organising” everyone’s mealtimes - and I mean constant / halfway through 22 hour trip...More

I understand that we should not compare a European train experience with Amtrak. However, Amtrak appears to be incapable to adapt to customer needs, such as traveling with oversized luggage or a bicycle. Amtrak does not attempt to accomodat for special requirements even though this...More

Saw Puget Sound, it was such a great sight to see it after hearing about it for so long. We had an amazing Steak and Seafood meal in our room. Enjoyed dining there and watching the coast go past.

I really don’t want to trash the Coast Starlight or Amtrak. Its just that this could be so much better. Let’s start with the route, which is fine. Some beautiful scenery for sure. No complaints there. It’s worth it for the coastal views in SoCal,...More

If you are interested in privacy, I would recommend using a sleeper compartment. I'm not sure about the price difference but I know the sleeping arrangement would be well worth it both during the trip and being well rested... More

No, the Starlight is not what most would consider a "hop on hop off" service. You would have to plan ahead on what cities you wanted to get off at and what days you would want to re-board and then make your reservations... More
