About
Lying within the Coconino, Prescott and Tonto National Forests, Arizona's Scenic and Wild River is a unique and important resource since it stands in dramatic contrast to the desert-type landscape through which it meanders.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We have gone down a lot of rivers in the USA. Oregon, Alaska, Washington, Colorado, and of course, California. I grew up on the Kern River. The Verde is one of the best, with a special attraction of hot springs to rest in along the way. Our last trip was during an epic high-water season, and there were some fools on the river. By fools, I mean people who had no experience or right to be on the river at such a dangerous time. It is right to assume the raft company that rents to these folks couldn't care less about their clients or the people who have to rescue them. Waivers are easily dismissed in courts anyway. Plan ahead!! Bring food, water & an emergency blanket for warmth, just in case. The Verde is a mystical water experience unusual in such a desert setting. Cherish the experience and beware of the babes in the woods, (or in this case, the babes on the beach in the midst of hypothermia.) And plan to pick up at least one 'Gumby' who got lost or was stranded. Good deeds always get rewarded.

We went to the Verde River when we were in Cottonwood, Arizona. The Verde River is a nice place for boating and kayaking. its also an area to look for wildlife and birds.

I have been on this beautiful train ride several times. The first time to celebrate my birthday. We upgraded from coach to the first class. First class has love seats, tables and chairs, hot and cold appetizers, an included mimosa. Every other car is open to enjoy the scenery in the open air. My husband and I prefer the afternoon train ride to enjoy the sunset. They don't mention it, but if you have AAA, let them know when you make your reservation for a discount. It's relaxing and fun. Each first class compartment has their own bartender, little snacks are put out for the return ride. I would say first class would be better for couples, friends, business.

Has anyone done a kayak tour on the verde river? Staying in Sedona for a few days my kids for spring break. Want to do a multi adventure (i.e. hike, bike, kayak etc) but wondering if this is a must see/do versus other Sedona sites.
