Boardwalk Fishing Lodge, Prince of Wales Island, Alaska

I spent 6 beautiful days at the Boardwalk Fishing Lodge located on Prince of Wales Island in Alaska. This lodge is a 1/2 hour float plane ride from the Ketchikan, Alaska airport. That was the start of an adventure that will not be forgotten. Prince of Wales Island is located in a rain forest and is very wet and beautiful. The lodge provided all the fishing gear and rain gear we needed to be comfortable and successful. Boardwalk lodge is nestled into the hill on a large tidal pool with a beautiful boardwalk from the dock to the facility. They provide meals with 2 full time chefs. The food was top of the line. Each morning the breakfast was cooked to order, while waiting for breakfast, an array of luncheon supplies were available to create your own sack lunch to take with you on your fishing adventure. (Think fresh cookies, sandwich supplies, snacks, fruits, and drinks...sodas, water, beer). At night in the dining hall, a fantastic meal was served and the attentive wait and kitchen staff worked with each guest and their food sensitivities and restrictions. (i.e My brother is allergic to Halibut so instead he had a salmon dish prepared just for him on the night the rest of us had a fantastic Halibut with pesto linguini dish. ) We had our choice each day whether to fish salt water for King Salmon and Halibut or freshwater fish one of the many stream locations. The guides Bear, Blake,Anthony and Jim all took out guests on 28' cruiser cabin fishing boats. Each day was a grand adventure as we set out early to fish staying all day, learning the different techniques and tackle to catch fish. The guides help as much as you want or allow you to learn as much as you are willing to do for yourself. The thrill of catching these large salt water fish is addicting. My wife and sister-in-law took right to fishing and wanted to participate (none of us consider ourselves people who fish). Each day the staff at Boardwalk welcome your fishing party and will assist you in taking a picture with your catch and filet and quick freeze your fish for you to bring home. We also saw whales, sea lions, deer, watched bald eagles soar above us each day. We took a short trip before dinner one day to see the Prince of Wales Island's famous rain forest and totem Indian village with a lodge house. The sad day of our departure via float plane again, our fish was frozen and specially packed so that we could check it as baggage at the airport. After 12 hours of travel back to home, the fish was still frozen solid and we will be enjoying it the remainder of the summer as we think of how we can return to Alaska for more. Thank you Boardwalk Fishing Lodge for a dream adventure. The owner, Brad Steuart, took such good care of us. I can comfortably recommend this place to anyone. I know that I won't be able to resist any future Alaska fishing trips that come my way. Our experience matched and exceeded the website information for them. www.BoardwalkLodge.com has good photos and information for decision making.

We recently visited family in Ketchikan , Alaska, took the IFA Ferry to Hollis, then on to Coffman Cove. The beauty of this trip is truly indescribable . We stayed with family, but there are several rentals in this area. I want to go back next year and stay for at least 3 day's.
We have been going to the Ketchikan area for about 11 years, I am always overwhelmed with the beauty and simplicity of life in this priceless piece of of our vast earth.
This trip we were blessed with the Orca Whales performing for us, as well as an appearance of the mother black bear with her cubs.
