Of all the available kayaking experiences in NZ, we decided to choose this one as Akaroa was a port stop on our cruise.
We are so glad we chose to do this one over some of the others. Initially, the cost was appealing by comparison and it seemed that it was a slightly more unique experience to the other adventures out there. Kayaking around the old crater, full of the coloured mineral water of glacial run-off was really quite unique.
The guides Joey and Jake were great. Jake in particular is a really great guy who was happy to have a chat about almost anything as we paddled along and his enthusiasm for his job, not only to ensure we had a great time but the fact that he clearly loves his job really added to a great few hours on the water.
We did see dolphins and rather than go chasing them, as other tour groups would do, we were kept well back and allowed the dolphins to continue undisturbed. I have a great respect for this attitude.
Akaroa is a beautiful little place and seeing it from the water was really quite special.
It was a real highlight of our entire holiday and we really couldn't recommend it enough.

Thanks so much for the lovely review and we are so happy we could provide the highlight to your holiday! Adhering to strict marine mammal viewing laws are extremely important as we do not want to disturb any wildlife. This is why we are proud to offer the most environmentally sensitive tours in the harbour- by travelling by kayak, no noise, pollution or disturbances can lead to some pretty special on water moments. Thanks for coming!

Self Guided E-Bike Tour

We had a great time exploring the different points of interest from Duvauchelles to Wainui Wharf with our family of 4. Self-guided meant we could go out our own speed and in our own time. 3 hours was plenty of time to even allow a pop in wine tasting/ food at Fench Farm should you wish. We loved it and there is plenty of challenge for the whole family or if needed switch it to turbo to help you cruise up the hills. Easy as! Highly recommend it if you are wanting a bit of exercise as well as some great views.

Today on Akaroa waters was a fabulous experience with guide John. He got us on to the water with a minimum of fuss. The weather (high tide, low wind, moderate temperature) was in our favour. With informative commentary, He took us to the sea mouth of the bay via sea cave and an “escort “ from some playful and rare (for the planet) Hector dolphins. Brilliant !!

I booked the kayak tour with no experience in kayaking, but eager to do some water experience 🙂 We were only two girls and Joey showed us very beautiful places with caves and narrow passages with lots of mussels and a little seastar. Joey was very eager to explain us a lot of information regarding botanic, history of volcano activeness and the Maoris. He was a perfect guide and very friendly and funny and experienced.

Had a fantastic time on my tour of Akaroa Harbour and was so excited to see the Hector's dolphins! My guide Jon was incredibly knowledgeable about the local area including the history, both Maori and European, and the plants and animals. He kept up morale during some very windy paddling as well. Thanks for a memorable afternoon!

It was a great experience. Great weather, stunning view, got to see dolphins, a penguin, and many New Zealand native birds. Also could hear about the story of the surrounding area and geologic knowledge.

Our guide Lucia, in addition to her excellent skills on guiding us in this experience, she’s also loved by the Hector dolphins! 😄 We had a lovely, relaxed and pleasant morning and Lucia was also making sure that we were safe while paddling. Great experience and a wonderful start of the new year! Thank you 🙏

A great couple of hours spent with our guide (Jake) who was a wealth of information and very helpful. Saw lots of bird life & rock formations (unfortunately no little dolphins) while we kayaked around a couple of bays. Allow about 3.5 hours and take a water bottle.
