NZ’s original private walking track is an excellent eco-tourism experience, offering diverse wildlife, scenery and hospitality. Each accommodation reflects the character, history and individuality of the track families. Two self-guided options offer you the comfort of hot showers and small numbers, combined with the independence of the freedom walker. A Kiwi favourite.

Have done a few hikes around Kiwi land by now and can definitely say this one sits at the top in terms of experience. Because it's paid and private, there is relatively low foot traffic (compared to the other big hikes in NZ). Actually, scratch...More

Thanks for taking the time to review us here on Trip Advisor. We are pleased your expectations were met...and we love that the penguin has taken up residence under one of our cabins as well, it adds to that character of the valley.

Stunning 3 day hike. Online it is described as an easy first timer tramp, however I am assuming due to recent track changes, it is a fairly full on 3 days of walking, with some tough up hill climbs. Those going in with little-to-no experience...More

Thank you for your review. We have given consideration to your comments about the challenge of walking our Banks Peninsula hills and altered the wording on the website to reflect this. How exciting that you got to see the rescue penguins being released...it's such a...More

We really enjoyed the views during this multiple day walk. Especially the cliffs were stunning. Also the fern gully (very green & with some waterfalls) was picturesque! At least we took a lot of pictures! We saw quite a few seals and about 6 hector...More
