Recently attended a sunset cruise with Charter1 onboard the Capella.
Great event, kind seas, and nice company in the other participants. The two person crew were hospitable and welcoming. Made for a lovely evening. A food platter of cheeses, crackers, fruit, and salami was provided and shared amongst all guests. Only a small suggestion is for food platters to be designed for booking sizes - example if 2 people book together, a platter for those two people be provided, and if a group of 4 people book together a platter for 4 be provided, etc. Given the small amount of galley space and solo steward (who is also pulling lines) it would easiest to get catering to make up the platters which would add to the price of tickets. Just a suggestion... but we loved the sunset cruise and will book more in the near future. Will look into day trips and even an overnight charter on this vessel. Can't wait until our next sail.

Loving all things on the water - I went on the Charter 1 bright yellow catamaran for a sunset sail from Fremantle for 2 hours.. we were served a glass of champagne and delicious antipasto platter . What a great way to wile away a couple of hours... our crew were informative and friendly and made everyone feel right at home ...you could help out with the sailing if you wished or otherwise just sit back and enjoy. I was the only single on board but everyone made me feel welcome including the other guests. If you show your boarding pass at Cicerellos you'll get a discount off your food pre or post sail. The catamaran leaves from right in front of Cicerellos. I had my fish n chips before the sail and came back to Cicerellos afterwards for dessert and coffee...a fabulous evening all up.

The team were very courteous and professional. What made it for us was the willingness to adjust what they did to ensure we had the best time. This included the personal touch of bringing platters to us so we wouldn't miss the sunset and taking pictures of us on our camera/phone.

This experience consisted of a catamaran ride to one if the bays near to the Ferry terminal, which is easily accessible by foot or bike from Thompson’s Bay; a snorkel just off the beach with vey few fish or reef on show; and a shared fruit platter. The ”sail” part consisted of 15 minutes of hoisting and taking in the sail around Thompson’s Bay. Definitely not worth $145 per person for the experience. Much easier and cheaper to hire the snorkel and flippers and swim out 30m from the beach to the same reef. It looked like the trip was thrown together at the last minute to pull in the tourists. Disappointing and not recommended.

Hi 93EdT. My name is Jules. I am the owner of Charter 1 and was also the skipper on the day of your tour. Firstly let me say thank-you for choosing to come onboard with us and also for taking time to provide feedback. I was surprised to read your review, as was my deckhand, as we felt that everyone on the day appeared to really enjoy themselves. However we obviously missed the mark for you and I’d love to understand more about how we could’ve made it a better experience. Indeed, there is great snorkelling on offer straight off the beach at Rottnest. However what we aim to offer is a lot more than just a chance to snorkel. Our Snorkel & Sail tour seeks to provide visitors an alternative way to get around and see/explore Rottnest’s stunning coastline from the comfort of a 12.5m luxury sailing vessel. Anchored well away from the crowds and in the hands of expert local guides, we offer a semi-guided experience plus many other fun activities for those preferring to stay above the waterline. All of which add up to what we believe is the ultimate way to enjoy the islands waters, whilst still allowing time to explore the island itself. On this particular day we took you to Parakeet Bay which has a well regarded intermediate level snorkel trail and is 3km by foot from the ferry terminal (4-5km by boat). We had people riding on the huge cargo net, and kayaks and the SUP for use too. The islands reefs are home to a huge variety of fish and marine life, although quite different to what you will find in tropical waters, and our guides are there to direct you to the best locations. We try to have the sails up where and when we can, however the skipper must balance this with ensuring enough time at the destination, also taking wind speed and direction into account (which sometimes isn't in our favour). We find that 2-3 hrs suits most people as it doesn’t eat too much into their day. However we will continue to fine-tune this based on the continued feedback of guests. We are a small, family run business and rely heavily on the positive referrals of all who step aboard with us. Our #1 goal is smiling faces and we will do everything in our power to ensure that happens. Our crew work hard to try to meet the needs all who step aboard, each with differing abilities, interests and expectations. I am very sorry to hear that on this occasion we did not meet yours. Once again, thank-you for taking time to review us. Kind Regards, Jules

Unfortunately, this wasn't the experience that I was really looking forward to. I booked the snorkel and sail at rottnest island.

Firstly, the boat is beautiful and the staff friendly.

But, the first disappointment was the number of guests, there were over 20 people aboard, every one wanted to sit out the front whilst cruising, so way too crowded. I was unlucky to have a handful of children on a school day and the adorable creatures seemed to get priority of activities. I don't recommend booking this experience to snorkel, it was like a fast paced game of follow-the-leader, so there was no opportunity to just enjoy the sea life. If I hung back to look at something, my safety was checked on. (This had me feeling a little insulted, like my size and presumed fitness was holding up the group).
A few unlucky conditions with wind direction and tide limited what we could see, so no chance of sea lions for us. Where we did pull up was very busy with a lot of other boats.
I hoped to try the drag net thingo, I requested to get a turn without children, unfortunately this wasn't possible.
I also hadn't realised the refreshments had been served, so they were mostly gone by the time I found them.
Even the very end was disappointing, I finally had an opportunity to lay on the trampoline at the front, but was ushered inside to be ready to disembark quickly. Frustratingly, all I had to grab was my bag, i really wish I could have been left out the front for that 10 minutes as the large family with the children dragged out the disembarking time anyway.
It wasn't just about the cost that made this disappointing, with wisdom, I'd have rather paid more to have less people and children. What disappointed me the most was more precious than money, it was the time. I find it unlikely I'll ever get the chance to visit rottnest island again, and the 3 hours could definitely have been invested better doing a self tour and snorkel.

PS, I feel it important to add. I don't dislike children, I have my own and I work with them, this experience was a holiday from them.

Hi Sawabc. Thanks for your feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed the vessel and found our crew to be friendly but also sorry you didn't get the experience you had been expecting. As discussed on the day, when booking a public tour it is inevitable that other groups will be present. Being a holiday destination, the chances of encountering families is high. We also offer private charters which can provide a much more individualized structure and experience. The points raised about group size and shared equipment use are already listed in the important information sections however we want to ensure people arrive with matched expectations on the day, so will certainly look to see if there for areas for further improvement. Thank-you for joining us & we hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay here in Perth.

Would highly recommend Charter 1. We received a voucher and decided to use it for the Sunset Sail from Fremantle. Booking was easy, the crew were lovely and it was such a great way to end the week. We enjoyed a glass of prosecco when we first jumped on board and took our own drinks to enjoy while watching the sunset on the boat. Thanks for a lovely time Charter 1!

We hired Charter 1's - Capella to celebrate my husband's 40th Birthday. Our six hour charter to Carnac island was utterly amazing. Picture perfect, pristine water, amazing facilities provided by Charter 1, a hands on crew who were well informed, highly involved and incredibly attentive made our day memorable. I couldn't recommend the experience highly enough.

Gift voucher was a gift from family & one I wouldn't have thought of doing myself. Booking experience was great. Georgina being helpful with dates.
Capella was a very comfortable boat with competent skipper & informative deck hand. Bubbles on boarding and share platter was a great touch. Fremantle was the perfect place to cast off from with lots of places for dinner after the cruise.
Great evening. Well done Charter 1 Team.

We did the 2 hour long sunset tour on the beautiful yellow Catamaran and loved every minute. Sailing along the Rotto coastline and watching the sun sink into the sea was breathtaking. We almost had the boat to ourselves as there was only one other couple on board so it felt like a private charter. Fabulous way to see the sunset over Rotto!
