Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions...

Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions and the only World Heritage listed building in the State. The Prison was built by convicts in the 1850s and was used as a place of incarceration for almost 140 years. With solitary cells and gallows Fremantle Prison is a monument to a system of punishment that is uncomfortably recent. Fremantle Prison now holds the key to history, mystery and fun. Step inside and do time with experienced guides on a fascinating Prison Day Tour. Explore the labyrinth of tunnels 20m beneath the Prison by foot and by boat on a Tunnels Tour adventure. Feeling brave? Delve into the darker side of the Prison’s history on an eerie Torchlight Tour.

Richard, our tour guide was so knowledgable and also made the experience so much more fabulous. A few actors and props to make you jump at times, but so many true and interesting stories about Freo Prison. Seriously recommend all tours ran by Freo Prison, as there is so much history and so many crazy stories to learn about.

The only way you can view Freemantle prison is via a guided tour which I was initially sceptical, however I'm pleased to say that Andrew our tour guide gave us a very detailed and insightful tour and it was so much better than simply walking round unaccompanied. The tour brings the place alive and we both thoroughly enjoyed our visit... More

We did the torchlight tour which was eye opening. The visit to the cells were really interesting as you could imagine the confined space inmates were housed in. Guide shared a couple of stories and did not drown us with all the history information. Definitely worth your time and money !

Amazing place to visit. We did the Doing Time tour which was terrific taking you into lots of different areas. The tour guides (i think ours was James) are fantastic, really knowing there stuff. The tour took about 1 hour 15 mins but just went so quick as so informative. Wish i had time to do the Tunnels tour, everyone... More

Really wish we'd given ourselves longer as only managed the convict tour (90 mins) -could easily have spent a half day there and taken a 2nd tour. Very informative guide, lots of info on the grimness of the reality - but wouldn't recommend young children listening in on some of the detail.

Visited the prison to take the underground canal tour (yes apparently the Prison was once the source of fresh water for Fremantle. The tour was so so, yeah yeah another damp smelly tunnel. A guy told me that it was a really hard prison to do time in (he was there for a few years), places like this kinda put... More

The visits are tour led by a guide with a wealth of knowledge on the history of the prison and some of its infamous past inhabitants .There are several types of tours on offer including a night time one done by touch light or a tunnel one going under the prison . We just went on the basic one which... More

Below the famous Fremantle prison is the original water supply storage for Perth cut into sandstone. It's a great tour and gives you a little bit of adventure as you traverse ladders and pull you self around the channels in little boats with great tour guides providing great insight along the way.

Well worth a visit. The very knowledgeable guide told us interesting facts about the history of the prison both historic and modern day. Good value for money.
