    Usual market set-up.
My wife would give this market a 4. I would give it a 2. So a 3 it is! It was packed on a Saturday of course. There are plenty of reasonable food outlets and all the touristy tat you could ever wish for. My wife did get a nice top for a fair price and I bought a delicious freshly squeezed orange juice. But frankly - I couldn’t wait to get out!

Definitely worth a browse - plan to go when it's not too hot.
It was a really hot day when we visited here: the crowds and lack of good air flow made it even hotter. They have crammed a lot into a small space. Even so, it was interesting, and had an eclectic assortment of foods and chattels for sale. It's an easy 10-15 minute walk from the train station, and is about five brisk-walking minutes from Fremantle Prison.

A must visit to this renowned market
A very diverse and interesting visit to this iconic market. Very busy on a weekend. Lots of things to sample such as wines/spirits, and purchases of food and homemade gifts. Also the fruit and vegies were of excellent quality and reasonable priced.

    A nice day at Fremantle
We took the train from Perth and wandered around the markets which was extremely crowded. There are lots of food vendors and we picked a Greek one and managed to find someplace outdoors to eat. The markets are selling all kinds of goods and we bought some gifts. We also wandered around Fremantle which was a nice place to visit.

Still an attraction after all these years!
We've been visiting this market since the 2000s and it has not changed much. Still a busy, bustling place where there are lots to see, buy, eat, browse.. interesting stuff that reflects the diverse culture in Australia. Prices are not too bad, and do visit in winter to escape the heat of Summer, as it gets way too hot inside sometimes.

Freemental Markets Crepe Suzettes are to die for!!
Do not miss the Crepe shop at the markets. Their Crepe Suzette is simply amazing. We have been going there regularly for the last 25 years or so for the Crepe Suzette that is made with orange liquor and served with ice cream. I have yet to taste anything better elsewhere!! Do try it!!

    Market worth the visit
Not a market type visitor and was surprised when I visited the Fremantle markets. This market is not the biggest but does pack it in to its building and offers everything from food to some unique items. Suggest going early to avoid the crowds and come hungry as there is multiple options

    Fun time at the market
We recently visited the Fremantle Market which is held from 9am to 6pm (Fri, Sat & Sun). This was an enjoyable way to spend a couple hours if visiting during market days. The market is made up of The Hall (shops) and The Yard (eateries) and is located within the historic building (1897) with interesting Federation Romanesque architecture. Within you'll find around 150 booths setup selling all manner of gifts, clothing, accessories, skin care, boutique and handcraft items along with a fair number of simple eateries, veggie and food retailers. All was laid back, interesting and good bit of fun browsing, shopping and finding a bite to try while in Fremantle.

    Food and souveniers
We came by to look around the markets since I was wanting to go to Sate Freo located here. The market is an old building which has a variety of shops inside. One end has the food court and the produce while the other has more jewelry and random items. It isn't super big but it is a nice place to try and find something different. I quite liked the selection of food here since it was so varied, including an amazing satay place and souffle pancakes. It wasn't super busy when we went but it was still bustling. There were also a few local spirit stores sprinkled throughout the market. I was also able to get some mondo nougat here. Keep an eye out for the robotic kangaroo.

Fremantle Markets is a popular tourist attraction. I can see how a visit to Perth should have a visit to Fremantle Markets on the itinerary. It also appears that every Perth visitor thinks this same way. So Perth visitors, combined with Perth locals, make the Markets are absolutely packed no matter how to time your visit, and yes even during Perth's "non-peak" visitor season. There is just no way of getting around it.

While there were a few good shops, fruit shops, and food outlets (and some were notably quite good), it is clear that there is simply too many people. They should consider expanding the markets or at least provide more open space to sit and enjoy the ambiance. I suggest 5 or 10 times more seating at minimum.

It's clear that the Fremantle Markets has minimised the availability of tables and chairs so to maximise shops/food stalls/fruit stalls (and therefore revenue/profit). Unfortunately, this comes at a cost to customers. I saw many customers fight over/place pressure on other customers who took the scarse seats and tables near the food area. Eating the food standing up is very difficult as the packaging of the food is not ideal for this.

Freemantle Market: Come weekend, the historic Freemantle Market is utter madness. It’s elbow to elbow crowd, all frantically trying to find cheap but good market grub. Items fly off the shelves for Eggspot sandwich bar, as well as Palace Patisserie which has a sweet intimate sit-down for those hankering after borek, baclava or other Middle Eastern favourites. It isn’t cheap but it’s a smorgasbord of good eats, souvenirs, fresh produce and Aussie products. #eatstylishtravelstylish

Fremantle market is the most busy place in Fremantle, with a lot of fantastic vibes and vibrant environment.
The popcorn was amazing and we loved the coffee so much. The milk shakes were nice.
The fruits were reasonable price, and some local accessories. However, some shops that advertise themselves at all clearance are really overpriced.

This place felt like a fire hazard with an emergency waiting to happen. We would’ve liked to get some food but the lines were crazy and there was no where to eat that we could see. Then there was the fake NBA jersey store and other knock off places. How is this even allowed in 2023? I’m sure some of the other places were good but we just kept getting pushed along. I don’t recommend taking children into this place from a safety point of view.

The markets tend to be a favorite place for both locals and tourists. Established in 1897, it was renovated in 1975 to include a fruits and vegetables addition. The markets are housed in one of two surviving market buildings in Western Australia used for its original purpose. If you are not a shopper, you can be obtained by watching a show in the square in front of the entrance. When we visited, there was a magician showing his talents and individuals hawking their merchandise. The market was super crowded and nearly impossible to navigate to the hundreds of stalls selling knock-off, Aboriginal crafts and souvenirs, clothing, toys, and, of course, food stalls.

Carparking was terrible. While we were inside someone pulled in next to us, parked on an angle and I couldn't open the door to get into the driver's seat. At $3.70 per hour, parking was overpriced and there was a one hour max (and an over zealous parking inspector who was out to catch you if you were even a minute over your hour. There was lots of food options, but apart from the 2 stalls selling fresh fruit and veg, everything was highly overpriced. Not worth the effort of driving there.

As we've traveled Terra Australis from east to west, the covered markets just get better and better. If you're here on a weekend (when the market is open), grab the train from Perth and get on down here. Every kind of ethnic food you've every heard of, and probably some you haven't (kangaroo biltong, anyone)? If I lived nearby I would eat here all the time. Extensive assortment of local tchotchkes on sale if that's your thing.

Fremantle Markets are more of a tourist attraction than something locals would visit regularly. Compared to Sydney and Melbourne markets, the Fremantle markets are actually quite small, has a lot of boutique type stalls, and some goods are completely over priced. For example there’s a handbag stall and the prices average $220 -$250 for a particular brand, which you can buy elsewhere for $200 -$220.

We stopped at a cafe for brunch which was delicious, and whilst I purchased fruit and veggies here as they looked quite fresh, half of it spoiled within 24 hours or had to be thrown out as it tasted off. And it’s not all local either - oranges were from the USA.

My friend was visiting from interstate and she was disappointed with the markets too.

Hi Kylie, Sorry to read your review. Are you able to let me know which stall you are referring to? The leather bag stall in the market is the factory outlet so it's not possible to find the exact same product elsewhere cheaper. You might be able to find cheaper substitute products. In regards to the fruit and vegetables, there are some products ready to eat now and others that will last a week or more. If you buy soft fruit, it's eat now or needs to be stored in the fridge for one, maybe two days. I recommend asking the owner of the stall for assistance when buying food, letting them know that you would like some to eat now and a few to ripen over the week. Oranges currently aren't in season so some products like this need to be imported. That's why traders notify you where it's from. Even if a product is out of season, customer do expect to be able to buy products all year round so our traders do need to offer these products or customers will go elsewhere. I hope this has helped you understand Fremantle Markets better. Kind regards, Natasha Atkinson CEO

Such an amazing market. There is a wide range of stalls for everyone and yummy food stalls also. Check online as they are only open certain days of the week, it is super busy when we went there on the Friday. Parking is nearby (paid)

Although Fremantle these days is a relatively short trip from Perth, the port city still has its own unique atmosphere. The Fremantle Markets date from 1897; it 's recognised globally for its diverse offering. Apart from being Heritage listed, the Markets have many unique things to interest travellers. The food court is tempting, its thriving selection of global street eats is well-known. There are always new treats and experiences. Since the Markets re-opened in 1975, it's become a favourite day out for residents and visitors alike.
